Mercy

Apparently this was super common among Puritans.

Thoughts on [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]? It may sound a bit dated now because [name_f]Marcie[/name_f], [name_u]Stacy[/name_u], [name_u]Tracy[/name_u] (similar sounds) are, but in concept it is more similar to [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Hope[/name_f] and I think it might come back?

I actually really love Mercy! If my husband was on board it would probably be on our list of potential baby names.

I would say its sweet, understated, and yet still feels elegant and streamlined. It also hits that sweet spot of uncommon yet familiar.

It doesnt really feel dated to me, as its never been super popular.

I met a [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] recently and it suited her well. It feels sort of warm and friendly and it’s sounds are both soft and sharp?

I can’t decide if it’s meaning would sometimes feel heavy to wear?

Although I prefer the Catalan [name_u]Merce[/name_u], [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] is a definite yes from me.

[name_f]Mercy[/name_f] I associate more with names like [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and also with names like [name_u]Favour[/name_u], [name_u]Wisdom[/name_u] and [name_f]Glory[/name_f], than [name_u]Tracy[/name_u] and [name_u]Stacey[/name_u].

I’ve met a little girl [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] she must be around 7 now. [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] is ok but it gives me such Victorian vibes that I prefer Mercia (the Anglo-Saxon kingdom name) nn. [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]

I know two Mercys! It is still pretty popular amongst Christians, at least in this part of the Bible Belt!

I love this name! It is due for a comeback for sure! I would have named one of our daughter this but I could not get my DH on board.

If we have another daughter, she’ll be [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]. It’s a beautiful name.

I think [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] is gorgeous!

She’s sweet, gentle, evokes imagery of spring days, pastel pink colours and antique lace. [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] feels very ‘Christian’ and I would associate with other strong virtue names like [name_f]Glory[/name_f], [name_u]Blessing[/name_u] and [name_f]Charity[/name_f]. [name_f]Mercy[/name_f] is a popular choice amongst the black [name_f]British[/name_f] community where I live.

It certainly is very pretty, but leans heavily on religious connotations.

[name_f]Mercy[/name_f] is a lovely gentle choice! I can definitely see it working due to the popularity of names like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f]

First association

It does sound very Puritan to me still. I would definitely assume she’s from a very, very religious family.

[name_m]Al[/name_m] [name_u]Fox[/name_u] [name_u]Caraway[/name_u] chose this name for her third child (spelled it [name_f]Mercie[/name_f] though)! She’s very religious, so I think that played into her choice  Her other kids are [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] and [name_u]Christian[/name_u], so also religious sounding, especially all three together

I don’t think it sounds dated to me, and maybe because I think if the attribute, not it’s similar sound to [name_f]Marcie[/name_f]
