Meredith -> Mary?

[name_m]Just[/name_m] kind of curious on everyone’s thoughts here - obviously phonetically Mary/Mari is a nickname for [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], but does it work without spelling it with an E?

I think it works! It’s very clear from the sound. Some people might assume it’s spelled [name_f]Meri[/name_f] if they know it’s short for [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], but I think it’s an easy correction.

Personally my nickname that I use every day is something like this. (Think [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] nn Allie) And [name_u]Ive[/name_u] never had a problem with it!

I think it could. If people knew the full name was [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], they might assume the [name_f]Meri[/name_f] spelling, but if you just said Mary/Mari, I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] would make sense.

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] makes sense, but I do prefer [name_u]Merry[/name_u] or [name_f]Merrie[/name_f]- they just look more cohesive and give a similar vibe to [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] (purpley, midnight forest, elvish feels- but also cheery and kind.) [name_f]Mary[/name_f] feels more classic and stubborn- plus is a deep red hue.
I don’t think it’s really a problem! [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is lovely!

Definitely works! It’s not a stretch at all, easy enough.

I think it works, plwnty of nicknames aren’t spelled like the full name.
