I know nicknames are personal, but when it comes to the name [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], i’m not a fan of the common nicknames such as [name_f]Edie[/name_f], Mere or [name_f]Merry[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think the name [name_f]Emmi[/name_f] (as in M E, the first two letters of [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]) is too much of a stretch or do you think it fits?
I wouldn’t necessarily associate [name_f]Emmi[/name_f] with [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], and I think it could take people a bit to get why they connect. Personally, I like spunky nicknames for more classic names, like [name_u]Scout[/name_u] for [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], so for [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], I like [name_u]Red[/name_u], and then she still has a mature, classy name to grow into after she outgrows [name_u]Red[/name_u].
It’s not really all that intuitive, but with your logic, it’s not unreasonable either. If it sticks and the person wearing the name likes it, I say go for it. I personally like [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] all by itself with no nickname, but I’m also not a big nickname person to begin with.
It is kind of a stretch…
Still, if you really dislike all other nicknames then use it!
I call my friend [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] [name_f]Eri[/name_f] or Medi (MEH-dee)
