Thoughts on this combo? I just thought of [name]Callaway[/name] today because I remembered it’s one of my favorite musician’s last name. A twist on [name]Calla[/name]? Merit is a new favorite. I have to say…I [name]LOVE[/name] this combination. ![]()
Merit is a favorite of mine!! I would pair it with a more obviously feminine mn cause it’s historically male. Merit [name]Calliope[/name] is really pretty actually!
I think Merit is just awesome. It’s strong & familiar but rare & I feel like I could use it to honor [name]Mary[/name]. The cigarette brand gives me pause, but I don’t even know if they still make those. [name]Callaway[/name] isn’t my style and reminds me of caraway & the word callow…sorry just my reaction/opinion. Maybe Merit [name]Bellamy[/name] would be a combo that goes with your style?
[name]Love[/name] it. I’ve never thought of Merit on a girl, but [name]Meri[/name] is super cute (or [name]Merry[/name])
My initial reaction was to glance up and make sure I was still in the girls’ forum. That said, I really like it. Merit is unexpected but I think it really works! I think [name]Callaway[/name] adds to the unisex vibe, but if that doesn’t bother you it could work!
[name]Callaway[/name] sounds like a southern-belle type name.
Like one of those surnamey southern belle names. I really like it. I agree, together, Merit [name]Calloway[/name]/Merit [name]Callaway[/name] has a bit of a masculine vibe, but I think it could totally work for a girl and [name]Rowan[/name] and Merit are very cute for sisters. I really like it! Although, now that I think of it, I like [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Callaway[/name] a bit better for sisters, but Merit [name]Callaway[/name] is lovely as it is.
Good luck!
I definitely don’t mind it being unisex… I hadn’t even thought of the cigarette brand! I don’t think anyone would think of that though… I only hang out with nonsmokers, haha. I asked a friend if she liked it, and she said “It sounds like a French or Dutch version of [name]Mary[/name]…” so she didn’t even think of the word merit.
I love [name]Callaway[/name]! I’m going against the grain to say that I find it very feminine; I find [name]Calloway[/name] more masculine. Moth names give me a refreshed feeling. As for Merit, unfortunately, I’m not a fan. I do like the sound of [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Callaway[/name] for sisters though!
The more I think about this, the more I love the idea of sisters [name]Rowan[/name] and Merit.
I would vote for [name]Merrick[/name] [name]Callaway[/name] (for a boy) I think it has a better look and sound and I think that Merit would be mistaken for a [name]Merrick[/name] anyway, so to avoid confusion [name]Merrick[/name] and it is classy too.
For [name]Rowan[/name]'s sister I love, love, love [name]Laurel[/name] and it has the nature them of [name]Rowan[/name] but it is not matchy or cutesy.
rollo
Merit [name]Callaway[/name] is a beautiful name. I particularly like that it’s different and yet easy to prn.
(If you wanted it for a boy I’d go with [name]Merrick[/name] [name]Calloway[/name] instead).
I also double checked to make sure I was on the girls’ forum. HOWEVER, Merit certainly works for a girl. It’s a noun name with a positive meaning. [name]Rowan[/name] and Merit go well together. I adore [name]Callaway[/name]. It was my great-grandmother’s maiden name, and I love it for a girl (and a boy) as well. My only hesitation from giving Merit [name]Callaway[/name] two thumbs up is that it is so ambiguous. [name]Rowan[/name]'s middle name says female loud and clear, but Merit [name]Callaway[/name] leaves you wondering.
I know the sweetest little girl named Merit. I love it.
I understand that. I still feel like I was kind of rushed into [name]Rowan[/name]'s middle name… I wanted something more unique, more like a word name. But my husband kept vetoing everything even though he wanted something different too. We were considering [name]Free[/name], [name]Bay[/name], [name]Kit[/name], and a few others I’m forgetting… I mentioned [name]Jane[/name] and my Mom just LOVED it. I still love [name]Jane[/name], but I wish we would have went with something a little more interesting.
I don’t mind the ambiguity of the name at all. But I can see how it would be an issue with [name]Rowan[/name]'s middle.
I really like it! Merit reminds me of [name]Marit[/name] which is a Scandinavian variation of [name]Margaret[/name], so it feels pretty feminine to me! Spelled [name]Merritt[/name], more like a surname, I can see it looking more masculine, but I would guess girl for Merit, also since virtue names are more common on girls. I really like the rhythm of Merit [name]Callaway[/name] and don’t really think it’s such an issue that [name]Rowan[/name]'s middle name is more clearly femme, it is the middle after all. That said I do think [name]Callaway[/name] seems kind of random, but, it works, and certainly Merit does!
I like [name]Rowan[/name] and Merit together. I like Merit for a girl.
I will admit that I read Merit [name]Callaway[/name] as a boy’s name at first.
I love that combo. It’s perfectly unique and beautiful.
Sorry, but I’m not a fan. I can’t stop thinking of the [name]Merritt[/name] Parkway, but if you don’t live near the NE U.S., this likely wouldn’t be a problem, I suppose. That said, I do much prefer [name]Callaway[/name] to Merit (especially with [name]Rowan[/name]). Maybe [name]Callaway[/name] Merit? Or Merit with a different middle name maybe?
I work with a woman who has a daughter named Merit and hearing her say the name when talking about her daughter has really endeared me to the name. I think it’s a great choice with [name]Rowan[/name]!
[name]Callaway[/name] is ok. I know someone whose last name is [name]Callaway[/name], so it just sounds way too much like a surname for me. Like others have said, I would probably pair Merit with something at least a little bit more feminine in the middle.
