MIA for quite a while. A Tragedy in Names...

I’ve been away from this forum for many a month now. I posted before that my beloved grandmother had a nodule on her lung. That nodule turned out to be lung cancer, and that cancer has spread all over her body. She is now lying in hospice at the end of her struggle. My heart is aching. This brings me back to my previous post. My husband now understands my deep need to name our next (and last) child after her, should we have a girl.

She was named [name]Ramona[/name] in 1934. Her mother named her for [name]Helen[/name] [name]Hunt[/name] [name]Jackson[/name]'s [name]Ramona[/name]. My grandmother still has the copy that belonged to her mother. I am still unsure of whether I would want to use [name]Ramona[/name] as a first or middle name, and would love some suggestions of combinations. My children are [name]Caleb[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] and [name]Annabel[/name] [name]Hope[/name]. Thank you very much for the distraction.

I am so sorry about your grandmother - it sounds like she is a very important part of your life.

I actually like the name [name]Ramona[/name] - it seems quite romantic and vintage to me. I only have a few suggestions:

[name]Owen[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]Ray[/name] (for [name]Ramona[/name] of course)
[name]Ethan[/name] [name]Henry[/name] [name]Ray[/name]
[name]Miles[/name] [name]Wyatt[/name] [name]Ray[/name]

For girls I like the combos of [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Sabrina[/name] [name]Faith[/name] [name]Ramona[/name] and [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Madeline[/name].

Good luck - I know you will find the perfect name to honor your grandmother.

First of all,I’m sorry to hear your sad news.
I think [name]Ramona[/name] is a very pretty name lots of combinations go with it:
[name]Ramona[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Emily[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name] [name]Ishbel[/name] (Scottish form of [name]Isabelle[/name])
[name]Ramona[/name] Geniveve
[name]Catherine[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]

I’m so sorry that is happening! :frowning: I wish for comfort for both you and your family.

With your names I see on your list…I like as possible combos…

[name]Ramona[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name] [name]Faith[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name] [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name] [name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name] [name]Madeline[/name]
[name]Molly[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Jocelyn[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]

With [name]Caleb[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] and [name]Annabel[/name] [name]Hope[/name] I think I like [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Phoebe[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Ramona[/name] the best

Other names you might like…
[name]Coralie[/name] (could do [name]Coralie[/name] [name]Ramona[/name] or [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Coralie[/name])

[name]Penelope[/name] (either [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Ramona[/name] or [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Penelope[/name])

[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Melanie[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name] [name]Jessamine[/name] (or [name]Jessamine[/name] [name]Ramona[/name])
[name]Anneliese[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]

Good luck!

So very sorry to hear of your grandmother’s sickness.

My husband is named [name]Ramon[/name] said like [name]Raymond[/name], my son is [name]Miles[/name] so my combo is [name]Miles[/name] [name]Ramon[/name]

I like pp of [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Madeleine[/name], it is lovely. [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] is my combo

[name]Glad[/name] to have you back.

rollo

[name]Love[/name] the [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] combination…either way round sounds fabulous!

[name]Ramona[/name]'s a little tough to pair, I’m finding. OOH! I’ve got one. [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Mathilde[/name] (mah-[name]TEEL[/name]).

BUT, if you have a boy, why not use [name]Jackson[/name] [name]Ramon[/name]? [name]Caleb[/name], [name]Annabel[/name], & [name]Jackson[/name].

I’m so sorry for what your family’s going through. I remember all too well when the same thing happened to my own grandmother… It’s so gut-wrenching, and my heart and prayers go out to your family. :frowning:

[name]Ramona[/name] is a very pretty name! I noticed in your signature that you both like [name]Violet[/name]? I think [name]Violet[/name] [name]Ramona[/name] would pair perfectly with [name]Caleb[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] and [name]Annabel[/name] [name]Hope[/name]. [name]Jocelyn[/name] [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Isla[/name] [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Tabitha[/name] [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Ramona[/name], and [name]Verity[/name] [name]Ramona[/name] are stunning, as well!

What about [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Clara[/name] [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]/[name]Eve[/name] [name]Ramona[/name], or [name]Ivy[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]?

Good luck!

very sad news. and precious to have an grandmother you hold so dear to your heart.

for your baby, i love the name ramona quite a lot! it was on my short list. the nn romy is as good as it gets.
i loved the suggestion of using ramon as a middle for a boy. love it with henry.
for a girl i put a fem spin on simon from your list and offer ramona simone. oh my goodness i’m in love! it is original and the perfect blend of strength and beauty.
all the best to your family.

I am so sorry and wish you, your grandmother, and your family peace.

As for the names, I really like pp’s suggestion of [name]Miles[/name] [name]Ramon[/name] for a boy. I could also see [name]Ethan[/name] [name]Ramon[/name], [name]Henry[/name] [name]Ramon[/name], and [name]Wyatt[/name] [name]Ramon[/name]. Depending on how you feel about variations, but I also think [name]Raymond[/name] would honor her, and I think that would pair better with [name]Simon[/name], [name]Simon[/name] [name]Raymond[/name], and maybe with [name]Ethan[/name], [name]Ethan[/name] [name]Raymond[/name].

For [name]Ramona[/name], I love [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Blythe[/name], [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Faith[/name], [name]Molly[/name] [name]Ramona[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]. Many of the others would be lovely but I am drawn to those for the 3-2 or 2-3 rhythm, I always like those but the 3-4, 4-3, and 3-3 could work for sure. Depending on the variation issue again, I can also see [name]Mona[/name] honoring her, maybe [name]Simona[/name] or with [name]Fiona[/name], maybe [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Remy[/name] or [name]Remy[/name] [name]Fiona[/name] to get a lot of the sounds of her name but not too rhyme-y.

Best wishes through this hard time.

I just adore [name]Ramona[/name] Madeleline/[name]Madelyn[/name]/Madolin/[name]Madeline[/name] as others have suggested.

I also love the idea of something more upbeat paired with it, as in the [name]Molly[/name] [name]Ramona[/name] above, or something like [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Camille[/name] and you could call her [name]Milly[/name]/[name]Millie[/name]. That way you have [name]Ramona[/name] in the all-important first name spot, but if it is too heavy or weighty for you in general, or compared to your [name]Annabel[/name], you can have a lighter name for her to go by.

[name]Caleb[/name], [name]Annabel[/name] and [name]Millie[/name] are precious to me!

[name]Ramona[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] nn [name]Maisie[/name]/[name]Maisy[/name]/[name]Daisy[/name] (from [name]Marguerite[/name] being French for daisy)
[name]Ramona[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] nn [name]Plum[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] nn [name]Poppy[/name] (though I think I prefer [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Ramona[/name] nn [name]Poppy[/name] in this instance)
[name]Ramona[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] nn [name]Betsy[/name], [name]Birdie[/name], [name]Lizzie[/name], [name]Ibby[/name], and a million other options here

[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Millicent[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]

When are you due?

I’m sorry to hear about your grandmother. I think that carrying [name]Ramona[/name] with you will keep her close to your heart.

I like [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] (and I like the meaning of blythe). Plus the nn [name]Mona[/name] is cute.

If you wanted [name]Ramona[/name] as a middle…

[name]Lorelai[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Coralie[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Willow[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name] [name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Madeleine[/name] (pronounced Mad-a-lane) [name]Ramona[/name]

I am terribly sorry about your grandmother.

I like [name]Ramona[/name], and it fits with your other two of [name]Caleb[/name] and [name]Annabel[/name].

Frenchie, I’m not yet pregnant, though we’re ready for a third. Hopefully soon.

Thank you all for the wonderful suggestions and condolences. The name we had settled on before the current circumstances was [name]Phoebe[/name], and I’m not sure that my almost 4 year old will let go of it. I really love the suggestion of [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]. Would it be odd to have one child with two middle names while the others only have two, as in [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]? [name]Phoebe[/name] was also a name that my grandmother loved.

As for a boy name, my husband has family names that he would like to pass on, namely [name]Owen[/name] and [name]Nando[/name].

I love [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]! And my favorite nn for [name]Ramona[/name] is [name]Romy[/name]… [name]Romy[/name] and [name]Blythe[/name] are actually two of my very favorite names so you could get both out of this combo!

I’m very anal about names, so I personally couldn’t do it, but that doesn’t mean you can’t. She’d know that she has 2 middle names because one is to honor her great grandmother who was very important to you. And if it bugs you enough, you could always add another middle name to your first 2 kids’ names. I have a friend who named her son [name]Greyson[/name] [name]James[/name], but later added Fionnlagh (Gaelic version of [name]Finley[/name]) to his name in honor of heritage.

As for DH using [name]Owen[/name] or [name]Nando[/name]…why not use [name]Owen[/name] [name]Ramon[/name]? [name]Caleb[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name], [name]Annabel[/name] [name]Hope[/name], & [name]Owen[/name] [name]Ramon[/name]. They all fit together. Or if you’d do double middle names, it could be [name]Owen[/name] [name]Ramon[/name] [name]Nando[/name].

I’m sure your DH would understand that your grandmother means a lot to you and would be willing to compromise. [name]Little[/name] [name]Owen[/name] would know both his first & middle names were to honor family members.

Oh, and [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] is a really beautiful combo, [name]Phoebe[/name] is also on my list. Wow! This name would get me three of my five faves!! I wish I had a family connection to a [name]Ramona[/name], my husband would never go for it.

I’m so sorry for your situation and must say that [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Ramona[/name] works quite well to me.
Perhaps since your grandmother was named after the book [name]Ramona[/name] it would work as a tribute to use the name of another character in that book.

I also very much like [name]Ramona[/name] [name]Violet[/name] / [name]Violet[/name] [name]Ramona[/name] as my grandmother’s mother was named [name]Viola[/name], and the violet has significance to my family. My son is very much stuck on [name]Phoebe[/name], as am I to possibly a lesser extent. He seems to have inherited my passion for names, lol.

I can’t decide how I feel about using [name]Ramona[/name] as a first name. We purposely did not use family names in the first slot to allow our children to have their own names free of previous familial associations. [name]Owen[/name] is different in that respect, as it isn’t after a single person, but a surname.
