Mid-life Name Change - Goodbye Mary!

I’ve named the kids, and now it’s time for a new name for me. [name_f]My[/name_f] birth name, [name_f]Mary[/name_f], is being replaced by [name_u]Abby[/name_u], so call me [name_u]Abby[/name_u]. As I embark on this change, and consider making it more formal, I’ve got questions about where to go from here.

Do I stick with [name_u]Abby[/name_u] or choose the formal [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], nickname [name_u]Abby[/name_u]?
So, Abby, or [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]?

And for my middle name? I thought of keeping [name_f]Mary[/name_f] as a middle, but I think I have better options. [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], [name_u]Collins[/name_u], and [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] are all family names I like, but they don’t have the right sound when put together with [name_u]Abby[/name_u] or my last name.
Middle name: [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], [name_u]Collins[/name_u], or [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f]? [name_u]Or[/name_u] something else?

Thanks for your help!

Usually I’m all for choosing a longer name so the baby has options when she gets older, but since you already know you want to be called [name_u]Abby[/name_u] I don’t think that’s necessary unless you like the way. [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] looks written on formal documents.

As for middle you [name_u]Abby[/name_u] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] gets my vote. However if you choose to use [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] or [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f], or [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] gets my vot.

If you keep [name_f]Mary[/name_f], then definitely [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f], rather than [name_u]Abby[/name_u] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]!

But I like sticking with [name_u]Abby[/name_u] on its own! [name_u]Abby[/name_u] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] is nice :relaxed:

I love both [name_u]Abby[/name_u] and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], so either way you will be making a great choice! Personally, I do suggest you go with [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] if that’s what you want to do. [name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] and I go by [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. I absolutely love having a shorter nickname as well as a formal variant and would totally urge you to go that route if that’s what your heart is telling you!
As for your middle name, my vote is for [name_u]Collins[/name_u]. Something about [name_u]Abby[/name_u] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] and/or [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] is very beautiful and classy to me!
Of course, go down whatever path you feel is right. As I mentioned, you have some awesome options laid out and no choice you make is wrong. Good luck and best of wishes to you! x

Abby [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]!

Thanks, all! I think [name_u]Abby[/name_u] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] it is. That was easier than I thought. I’ll try it on for a while before making it formal, but yet, that works!

I actually think [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]/ [name_u]Marie[/name_u] would be an awesome sounding pick. Although [name_u]Abby[/name_u] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] could work if you wanted the less formal choice.

If you want to be called [name_u]Abby[/name_u], go with [name_u]Abby[/name_u]! [name_u]Collins[/name_u] is a very cool middle. [name_u]Abby[/name_u] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] gets my vote

My middle name. I prefer [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] with the NN [name_u]Abby[/name_u]. [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] has a nice ring to it.

Since you want to be called [name_u]Abby[/name_u], I’d stick with that
[name_u]Abby[/name_u] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] is great!!
