[name]How[/name] much do you think of middle initials when naming a child? There are so many names I absolutely love, but am not sure that the letter they start with makes a good middle initial. Does anyone pick out middle names based on the letter they start with, or am I just being silly?
I only think about the initials in that I want to make sure they don’t spell bad words. Examples: i loved [name]Raphael[/name] Alastor [name]Thomas[/name] but that spells RAT. When my step-dad wanted to give me his last name, he couldn’t because I’d be [name]Angel[/name] [name]Starr[/name] [name]Smith[/name]…see what those initials spell?
otherwise, i don’t think it’s an issue at all.
I agree with dantea. I love my two middle names but the initials are S & M. which isn’t so bad since it’s really ASM__ but it does always make me aware of potentially awkward spellings.
I agree with Dantea. I’d just look out for bad words. Luckily for me, our last names make WE together, not a lot of words that end in that.
I’ve lost a few names thanks to initials. My favorite comb. for the longest time was [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Mae[/name], so of course I went and married someone with the last initial S.
Yep, scratch that one off the list.
I do write out the three letters and sometimes something doesnt look “right” to me…it’s hard to explain but the letters just don’t look good. I’ve always thought K, P, R, V, and W made distinctive looking middle initials. I’m not sure I’d want an O, Y, or U in the middle for some reason, but totally subjective, I guess I like more angular looking letters in the middle.
I’m pretty sure my parents had the right idea. Luckily, I never had to go through life with initials like NAG or NOG; I’m happy with just NHG, really. However, my BF’s last name starts with B. If we ever had kids together, I don’t think anything too bad would result. However, I can’t help but wonder, are intials like LAB, FAB, or [name]TAB[/name] that bad? Because I can’t help noticing a lot of my favorite combos have middle names that start with A.
@Valkyrie I’m a JAB and I’ve always liked it! I think a lot depends on the word’s association. FAB on a girl might work fine but has tease potential on a boy. [name]TAB[/name] woud be really cute for a [name]Tabitha[/name] girl (I’ve thought about initials [name]ROB[/name] for a [name]Robert[/name]!), kind of a soda or a bill for anyone else? Lab makes me think of meth lab : (, but I guess there’s also science and lab science. Etc : D.
I think about them! I even have a combo to get VIP: [name]Victoria[/name] [name]Isabelle[/name]/[name]Vittoria[/name] [name]Isabel[/name]. (SO’s surname starts with P, and when I thought of the idea he loved it. [name]Victoria[/name]'s also his suggestion, so it all fell together perfectly)
I’d also avoid negative or less than desirable ones, like COW, DOG, PIG, [name]MAN[/name] (on a girl), BAD.
I only think about how the spellings will be (and remember that on a lot of monogrammed items, it goes fn, ln, mn)
I like the letters A, N, V best, but also love R and P… it seems to silly. I don’t necessarily even like names that begin with these letters, but I know I don’t like the idea of some letters in the middle spot.
I just went through my list and put my favorites with my boyfriend’s last name. I got SAN, TGN, GJN, and JNN for boys. For girls, I got TMN, EBN, NJN, and RCN. None of them are too bad.
I think it’s important. As much as I like names that start with O or A for a middle name, they’d spell a word, so I highly question whether or not to use them. I don’t want my kid to have initials that spell something funky or odd.
I know with my dad, his initials spell HEL.
I have an E and one of my sisters has an A. Not sure if its just because its not a vowel, but my other sister is R. We always laugh when we hear it (we are really mature!) or if we see it written down! It just sounds harsh I think.
