Middle name advice for Oberyn

Our boy after three girls is due late [name_u]January[/name_u]. We have his first name: Oberyn (Oh-ber-in, three syllables).

The middle name is kicking my butt but my oldest daughter and I are reading [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] and I stumbled upon a name I think I love. Marvalo.

Husband is meh, but giving me free reign because he chose [name_m]Obi[/name_m]'s first name. I want [name_m]Zane[/name_m] but Oberyn [name_m]Zane[/name_m] sounds like “over insane” and I can’t get passed that.

Anyway, thoughts on Oberyn Marvalo?

I’m very open to very unique middle names that may fit as well. Our last name begins and ends with an S and is relatively ordinary. Our girls are [name_f]Gianna Belle[/name_f], [name_f]Athena Giselle[/name_f], and Evanora Gail.

Thank you, all.

It’s Marvolo, not Marvalo. And for God’s sake, please do not name your child after Voldemort. Oberyn [name_m]Martell[/name_m] is a lot to handle, but at least he’s not a murderous psychopath.

Why not spell Oberyn the original way? [name_u]Oberon[/name_u]?

I agree with above posters, Oberyn Marvolo is too fandom-y and not in a good way.

It’s way too much. [name_u]Oberon[/name_u] is a great, but unexpected name. I would use something in the classic side.

[name_u]Oberon[/name_u] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_u]Oberon[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Oberon[/name_u] [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]
[name_u]Oberon[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_u]Oberon[/name_u] [name_m]Edward[/name_m]
[name_u]Oberon[/name_u] [name_u]Reid[/name_u]
[name_u]Oberon[/name_u] [name_m]Miles[/name_m]

Agreed with previous posters that Marvalo or Marvolo is too much considering the Voldemort association. And if you pronounce Marvalo as [name_m]MARV[/name_m]-uh-lo, it sounds kind of like a traveling circus act. Personally, I’m just not a fan.

Other middle ideas for Oberyn:

Oberyn [name_m]Alonzo[/name_m]
Oberyn [name_m]Casimir[/name_m]
Oberyn [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m] or Oberyn [name_m]Lazaro[/name_m]
Oberyn [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
Oberyn [name_f]Marlo[/name_f] (I really like this as an alternative to Marvalo)

If I didn’t know or care about the Voldemort association, my concern would be the circus/comic-book vibe. I did think “Presenting the Amazing Marvelo.” I can see future dates asking his middle name and then resisting an eye-roll hehe. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this doesn’t come across as harsh, it sucks to have a name you like disliked. But hopefully you find something you and baby’s dad both love! :heartpulse:

Oberyn [name_m]Nash[/name_m], [name_m]Hale[/name_m], [name_u]Baily[/name_u], [name_m]Telly[/name_m], [name_u]Bryce[/name_u], [name_m]Wells[/name_m], [name_m]Wellington[/name_m], [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] orEllas, [name_f]Joell[/name_f] (pron. jo-ell, Not jole), [name_u]Neil[/name_u]

I agree with @fireatwill52!

Thank you for the suggestions. I know it’s “Marvolo” but I was using something different so as to not name him after Voldemort.

The suggestion to change the spelling of his name to [name_u]Oberon[/name_u] isn’t what I asked. His name is Oberyn, and they are two different names.

I appreciate the kind responses.

I didn’t realize it was okay to basically snap at someone for choosing something you may not. I’m sure my husband and I will figure something out.
