Hello, I am in desperate need of advice and inspiration. My family has passed on the middle name of [name]Dix[/name] for generations of females. It is my middle name and I have always hated it and endured copious amounts of teasing because of it, yet, I love the idea of passing down the same name through the generations. Now I am pregnant with a daughter and am very conflicted about the name. I want to use it for sentimentality’s sake but I don’t want my daughter to be teased because of it. Any suggestions on how to modernize it or somehow incorporate it into the name? We are thinking of [name]Brynn[/name] or [name]Norah[/name] as first names. Thanks so much!!
I would use it, but use it as a second middle. Changing it seems like messing with tradition (and I can’t think of a way to incorporate it without really changing it, to something like [name]Dixie[/name], [name]Dex[/name], etc.). If you use it as a second middle, your daughter will always have the ability to answer with something less teasable as her middle name, and no schoolmates will need to know about it, yet she can still have it there to keep with family tradition for when she gets older and people start to respect that a lot instead of just making jokes.
So I’d pick a middle name you just love, plus [name]Dix[/name] - the names you like are short enough to do that easily.
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Dix[/name] is really cute. I love the name [name]Brynn[/name] but I’m not crazy about [name]Brynn[/name] [name]Dix[/name].
I like the suggestion of using it as a second middle name. That would take care of the choppiness of [name]Brynn[/name] [name]Dix[/name]. ex: [name]Brynn[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Dix[/name], [name]Brynn[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] [name]Dix[/name]
Ditto! Double middle name will help you.
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Autumn[/name] [name]Dix[/name]
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Vivian[/name] [name]Dix[/name]
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Gemma[/name] [name]Dix[/name]
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Mabel[/name] [name]Dix[/name]
[name]Brynn[/name] [name]Alisa[/name] [name]Dix[/name]
[name]Brynn[/name] [name]Tatiana[/name] [name]Dix[/name]
[name]Brynn[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Dix[/name]
[name]Brynn[/name] [name]Eleanora[/name] [name]Dix[/name]
Is Eudoxia too much a stretch for you to honor [name]Dix[/name]? Maybe even elaborating it to [name]Dixon[/name] could be ok? I do like the idea of a second middle that was previously suggested too.
Something like
[name]Brynn[/name] [name]Dixon[/name]
[name]Norah[/name] Eudoxia
[name]Brynn[/name] [name]Theresa[/name] [name]Dixon[/name]
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Colette[/name] [name]Dixon[/name]
[name]Brynn[/name] Eudoxia [name]Mary[/name]
[name]Norah[/name] Eudoxia [name]Jane[/name]
Is it pronounced like [name]DIX[/name], like the first syllable of [name]Dixon[/name], or like [name]DEE[/name], as in the French word for 10 (dix). I actually think [name]Dix[/name] pronounced the French way would be interesting as a MN–if [name]Seven[/name] is done, and other random word names like [name]Poet[/name], Tranquil, etc., I think [name]Dix[/name] could work, too. I rather like the suggestion of [name]Brynn[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Dix[/name] (although that would spell BAD–which is a bit off-putting!). If you had a hard time with it, and don’t really like the name itself, just the sentimentality, maybe you could change to the opposite pronunciation, or pass down a totally different family name? Or another name that honors the original [name]Dix[/name]?
Good luck!
