Hello, berries,
I’m in the process of sketching out an idea for a novel. I have a character who needs a middle name which she would’ve picked for herself as she’d forgotten the name her parents had given her.
Her parents are [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] Vervloet-[name_m]Durand[/name_m] and [name_f]Blanche[/name_f] Montbelliard, they’re both magical and from old aristocratic families. Her father married [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] Raskopf a little after her birth and with her, he has four sons called [name_u]Maxime[/name_u], [name_m]Aurelien[/name_m], [name_m]Lucius[/name_m] and [name_m]Fabian[/name_m]. Her paternal grandparents are [name_m]Aurelien[/name_m] Vervloet-[name_m]Durand[/name_m] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] Aakster.
Her family typically use names of Latin origin, though they also use [name_m]French[/name_m], Dutch and Flemish versions of Latin names too.
The girl’s called [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] Montbelliard Vervloet-[name_m]Durand[/name_m] by her parents (her parents weren’t married) but is known more commonly as ---- [name_m]Rivers[/name_m]. She picked the name based on some historical female figure that she found in a book when she was 10 years old. I have a sentence I’d like to use in describing her name where her mother is disgusted by her choice: “You named yourself after a whore…”
For this line, I’ve considered:
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] - for [name_f]Empress[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], wife of [name_m]Justinian[/name_m] I, who is thought to have been an actress before she married the emperor.
[name_f]Thais[/name_f] - companion of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] the Great.
[name_f]Marcellina[/name_f] - but there is no good historical figure to go along with it.
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] fits the best but clashes with the character I have in my head, the girl is strong and silent, she’s brilliant but hides it in order to not stand out. She’s extremely loyal to those she cares about and those who have shown that they care about her. She has a terrible relationship with her parents, particularly her father who is determined to control her magical abilities by taking away her choices and insisting on called her [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]. She’s pretty emotionally broken by her parents’ lack of regard for her and somewhat jealous of her little brothers, although she won’t admit it. She has a habit of hiding her issues from others because she sees weakness as being wrong. She had a problem with perfectionism and anxiety. (This decribes her from 16 years onwards as that is when her school finds her parents).
Thanks in advance.
