Middle Name for Adlai

Husband and I are set on [name_m]Adlai[/name_m] for baby boy #2 (still just a dream baby, though), but we’re at a loss for good middle names. I love that it’s a unique A-name with a little Biblical street cred, but all our attempts at a middle just don’t sit right. The first boy has the more respectable, responsible moniker (named for grandfathers) and, as second children are usually more creative, we want to give boy #2 a little more freedom. Last name is [name_u]West[/name_u], like the direction.

Any ideas?

[name_m]Adlai[/name_m] is a more unusual Biblical name so I would pair it with a more traditional mn or classy, spunky surname (his first name is already “different” from his respectfully named older brother so I wouldn’t want to get too carried away so that the two boys sound like they were named by different parents/family). Are there any other family members or friends that you would like to honour in the middle spot? I don’t know if I agree with your statement that second children are usually more “creative” than the older ones but here are some suggestions. I think three-syllables would be ideal with a two-syllable fn and one-syllable surname.

I like alliteration so [name_m]Adlai[/name_m] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] and [name_m]Adlai[/name_m] [name_u]Adair[/name_u] would be my choices

Excellent choice! I grew up with an [name_m]Adlai[/name_m] so it would be strange of me to use it as we are still friends, but not so close that I would honor him! I have dreamed up some combos!!

Avoid [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] or -son names in the middle.

I think it works really well with solid classics like [name_m]Peter[/name_m] or [name_m]John[/name_m] as well as occupation names like [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] or [name_u]Tailor[/name_u]. It mixes well with so many! My fave is probably [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] or [name_m]Donovan[/name_m]!
