Middle name for Alice

I would love to use [name]Florence[/name] (family name) but not sure about the repetition of the ‘l’. It seems to sound better if you say it with a surname (not going to post this). And I guess you’d never use your middle name without your surname but I just can’t decide. What do you think? Does it sound wrong?

And if anyone has any ideas for [name]Alice[/name]'s sister, feel free to post…

I wouldn’t say it sounds wrong, but [name]Florence[/name] wouldn’t be my first pick for [name]Alice[/name]. It’s the s/ce sounds that bother me more than the ls. It’s too bad because I love both names separately. Having said that, I would prefer to use a family name I love over a random pretty name even if it doesn’t sound as good. Also, I think [name]Alice[/name] [name]Florence[/name] looks beautiful written.

Are there any other family names you might consider?

[name]Alice[/name] [name]Florence[/name] doesn’t have the best flow but I think it’s more the repeated ce ending than the L. Would you consider [name]Flora[/name]? [name]Alice[/name] [name]Flora[/name] is pretty. If you want to stick with the full family name, it’s my theory to forgive a slightly less than perfect flow in favor of using family names and for the meaning behind the name.

I agree it looks so nice on paper but the repeating s sound is too much for me.

[name]Hi[/name], I think [name]Alice[/name] [name]Florence[/name] is too “s” heavy at the end of each name. [name]How[/name] about [name]Alice[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] instead? I also like the pp’s idea of [name]Alice[/name] [name]Clementine[/name], or even [name]Alice[/name] [name]Cordelia[/name]!

I love [name]Alice[/name] but don’t care for the flow of [name]Alice[/name] [name]Florence[/name]. I like the repetition of the “el” sounds but not the “ce” sounds at the end. I’m considering [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Alice[/name] for my new baby. I think [name]Alice[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] works too.

If you want to stick with the middle name [name]Florence[/name], would you consider a first name starting with the “ce” or “ess” sound, like [name]Celia[/name] [name]Florence[/name] or [name]Sidney[/name] [name]Florence[/name]?

Thanks for suggestions, will look through them later  It does look lovely written down and they are my two favourite girls names, probably why I’ve been trying to think of ways to make them work despite knowing they don’t. Perhaps I could use them both as first names. The only other family name I would want to use is [name]Jane[/name] and I feel that’s too plain with [name]Alice[/name].

I actually like the sound of “[name]Alice[/name] [name]Florence[/name].” It’s a little hard to say, but I think that the echo of the “l” and “s” sounds is lovely. I also think the two names look beautiful together in print (and when does anyone say your first/middle name together out loud, besides high school/college graduation?) I would use it, especially because it is a family name.

Thanks. We don’t have school graduation in the UK so that’s another occasion off the list. My biggest concerns are right after the birth - telling people her name and at school. I can remember when I was at primary school we used to do a lot of messing around with names, calling people by their middle name/initials etc. I wouldn’t want my child to be the one to be teased, there was a girl in my class who didn’t have a middle name and people used to say her parents couldn’t be bothered to give her one :frowning:

Does anyone think it would be weird to give one child a family name for their first name and the rest a family middle name?

I have the solution! Two middle names… so she would be [name]Alice[/name] ___ [name]Florence[/name]. I love [name]Alice[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Florence[/name] but it’s perhaps a little l/s heavy.

I think [name]Alice[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Florence[/name] is gorgeous  It IS a little L heavy, but I think that’s okay - it’s not going to have to be said aloud that often anyway.

[name]Alice[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Florence[/name] is beautiful.

I second this idea!
It is quite an English thing to have two middle names. I’m English too and I love the tradition!
