We’re expecting a baby girl in late May and struggling with a middle name for her. We have always been set on Amelia as our favourite girl name (and love the nickname Mila, which she will go by interchangeably with Amelia). Her brother is called Alexander (Alex) Luca and his name came quite easily to us, with the middle name having meaning and his first name being our longstanding favourite boy name. If our daughter was another son we would have likely named him Oliver Hugo or Oscar Hugo and she is likely our last baby (although leaving the door open for one more potentially).
We like fairly timeless / classic names with international versatility because of our family background. I’m quite tempted by a two syllable, shorter middle name again to balance out the longer first name. I always liked Isla, but I’m not mad about it with Amelia (and especially not Mila). I love Lily / Lucia / Lyra and did like the idea of ‘L’ middles, mine is Louise, my son has Luca, but we are picking another ‘A’ first name so completely matching initials is probably too much. Other names I like are Florence, Violet, Rose, Flora, Clara, Sophia. My husband loves Hazel (it has a special meaning) and I’m quite fond of it too but would really welcome any more ideas
I think the names on your list work really well - especially [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] But any of them would go nicely, some great options.
Here are some other ideas for timeless one or two syllable names, not beginning with L:
I like Amelia Florence and Amelia Hazel the best of the combinations you’re considering - they’re both so elegant and storybook sweet! I would tip in favour of Hazel given it has special meaning.
For other options, Amelia isn’t as long (letter wise & pace) as Alexander, so I feel like you can go a little longer than a four letter middle if you want to. Have given a range:
Amelia Delphine
Amelia Claire
Amelia Briony
Amelia Celeste
Amelia Frances
Amelia Harriet
Amelia Sophie
Amelia Tess
Amelia Fleur
Amelia Bonnie
Amelia Marion
Amelia Lucette (if you decide a little matchy ok!)
Amelia Zoe
Amelia Opal
Amelia Bethany
Amelia Marigold
Amelia Tabitha
Amelia Constance
Thanks for all of your suggestions - I’m going to add a few of those to our shortlist (I particularly love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] and Camille). I think you’ve all convinced me on [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] too, I’m really warming to that combination and I think [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is still a top runner from my list.
Thank you - It’s a really good point that you make on letters and pace - so I’m definitely going to be less strict on the middle name criteria for her. I really appreciate it
Thanks, these are all lovely suggestions. I’m definitely feeling [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
When we were naming my sister, my mum and I loved [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] (she liked the nn [name_f]Mila[/name_f] too) - we didn’t end up using it but that was my first thought
You’ve got some fantastic options so I’ll just suggest
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Sage[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Joanie[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Summer[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Taylor[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Holly[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
