Middle name for Clara? Difficult husband...

I am in need of a middle name for [name]Clara[/name] ____ [name]Pagan[/name].

I have to rule out A or O names because I don’t want [name]CAP[/name] or COP as her initials.
I tend toward real names that are not hugely popular. My daughter is [name]Phaedra[/name] [name]Noemi[/name]. (For added reference, my stepdaughters are [name]Xandra[/name] [name]Mae[/name] and [name]Malanie[/name]. [name]Both[/name] stepdaughter’s names were made up by my husband.)

I have lots of middle name ideas but he nixes them all.
My favorite: [name]Clara[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]
Second favorite: [name]Clara[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] (though, I don’t know if I want people nicknaming her CJ, either)

I gave him a big long list and the only one he half-liked was [name]Clara[/name] [name]Sophia[/name], but [name]Sophia[/name] is too popular for me.

Ugh! Can anyone help?

I would try to choose something unusual, as your daughter and step-daughters have much more unusual names than [name]Clara[/name]. A more unusual middle name may help tie all the names together.

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] is nice.

My stepdaughter’s name is [name]Clara[/name] Mandisa - I like the idea of a more unusual middle name. [name]Phaedra[/name] is an amazing name. What about [name]Clara[/name] [name]Elodie[/name]? Or [name]Clara[/name] [name]Bellatrix[/name]?

I like both [name]Clara[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] and [name]Clara[/name] [name]Josephine[/name], but [name]Phaedra[/name] [name]Noemi[/name] is so much more unusual, I would try to find something along those lines for [name]Clara[/name] as well.

[name]Clara[/name] Belisent
[name]Clara[/name] Briseis
[name]Clara[/name] Chione
[name]Clara[/name] Chrysanthe
[name]Clara[/name] Chryseis
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Guinevere[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Lavinia[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Lucretia[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] Messeis
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Nephele[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] Pallene
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Rhiannon[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Selene[/name]

My absolute favorite [name]Clara[/name] combination is [name]Clara[/name] [name]Melisande[/name]. Would hubby go for that? It may be a bit too close to [name]Melanie[/name]…

Other other not so common ideas:
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Rosamond[/name] (love this too!)
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Philomene[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Leonie[/name] (again, similar to [name]Melanie[/name]…)
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Ianthe[/name]

I really like [name]Clara[/name] [name]True[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t know why. It sounds so beautiful to me.

Some other suggestions-

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Isabeau[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Lillian[/name]

On a side note- [name]Clara[/name] is much more mainstream than the others. She may feel left out.

Thanks for all the responses so far! I love them!

I should add that [name]Clara[/name] is my only grandmother’s middle name and my husband and I are both committed to using it. I know it’s more common than the others, but I’ve been teaching for 15 years and have never had a [name]Clara[/name] come through our district, so I feel secure in its unique quality here.

I’ve added:
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Lucretia[/name] (love this suggestion – [name]Lucretia[/name] Mott comes to mind)
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Bellatrix[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Delphine[/name] or [name]Clara[/name] [name]Delfina[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Sarai[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Rosalind[/name] (my mother is [name]Roseanne[/name] – may be a nice touch!)

The others I don’t think he’ll go for (in fact, I’m sure he won’t go for most I just re-listed) but it’s worth a try! He drives me nuts!

Keep 'em coming! THANKS!

Ooh! I love suggestion of [name]Clara[/name] [name]Rosalind[/name]. [name]How[/name] about:

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Elise[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Raquelle[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Camille[/name]

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Nicole[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Eve[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Ruth[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Jade[/name]

I’m not sure if this has been suggested yet, but I like the sound of [name]Clara[/name] [name]Gwendolyn[/name]/[name]Gwendolen[/name].

My favourite with [name]Clara[/name] has always been [name]Clara[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]. I just think they sound gorgeous together (actually, everything with [name]Evangeline[/name] sounds gorgeous). It’s a similar style to [name]Josephine[/name] and [name]Beatrix[/name] too.

And [name]Phaedra[/name] [name]Noemi[/name] is just beautiful!

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] is great! I’m a bit lucky that my husband couldn’t care less about our child’s middle name. He’s happy to let me choose whatever I want (pretty much, as long as it’s not too crazy) as long as he likes the first name. Sorry, I don’t have any more middle name suggestions other than what’s already been mentioned. See if you can twist his arm on [name]Clara[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]! It’s a great name.

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Eugenia[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Camille[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Felicia[/name]

Ok, nerd confession: I totally thought it was a Whovian related name choice (which I would totally respect) and was going to suggest [name]Clara[/name] [name]Jane[/name] or [name]Rose[/name]. I still like these both though!

I love both [name]Clara[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] and [name]Clara[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]!

Suggestions:
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Louisette[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Delphine[/name]

[name]Clara[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Lillian[/name]

He hates [name]Delphine[/name] and [name]Lucretia[/name]. Ugh! The others he’s going to look at on the list but I don’t hold out much hope. He mentioned [name]Sophia[/name] again as a mn. Wahhh. I like the name (I really do) but it’s just sooooo popular. Help! What do you do when you can’t agree? Grrr!

Maybe [name]Celeste[/name]? Not a fan of [name]Sophia[/name]. [name]Clara[/name] [name]Pagan[/name] is already ‘a’-centric, adding another name that ends in ‘a’ just seems like overkill. If he’s likes [name]Sophia[/name], perhaps [name]Sophronia[/name]? Still ends in ‘a’, but more unusual. In any case, [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Pagan[/name] are both two-syllable words with the accent on the first syllable, so I’d be wary of choosing another name with the same rhythm. Good luck!

By the way, thanks for the compliments on [name]Phaedra[/name] [name]Noemi[/name]. :stuck_out_tongue:

He likes [name]Clara[/name] [name]Sarai[/name]. Thoughts? I am kind of just happy at this point that he likes SOMETHING. Argh. We still have until [name]July[/name], but I want to be settled. If you have more ideas, I’d still love to hear them!

Thanks for all the ideas so far. I really appreciate it.
