I am due to be induced to have a little girl next week. I already have an 18 month old daughter named [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. My husband and I are intent on naming our new addition [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]. However we can’t decide on her middle name. We are torn between [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
Any opinions would be really appreciated or any new suggestions as time us running out and we have been debating for months!!!
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] & [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]/[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]- I like [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], too, but it’s much longer than [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] both end on the -ee sound, which to my ear sounds sort of off
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is a fantastic choice - love it!
I really like the suggestion of [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] to avoid two names ending with the -ee sound. [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] would be my second choice. [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] are both lovely names individually but they’re pretty long together and I find the end vowel of [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and the start of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] run together a bit.
I do like [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] though, and I think it avoids both of those problems as it’s only two syllables and the first is a stressed EH sound, rather than EE.
I agree with previous posters, that the two ee endings of [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is a bit much. I really like the suggestion of [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. I love both [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but too 4 syllable names is quite a mouthful. [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] or [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Liza[/name_f] might have a better flow. Also [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is such a wonderful choice, and it’s so refreshing to see a thread that isn’t about whether the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] connection makes it unusable haha.
Thank you very much for your replies! That’s really helpful. I thought that [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] sounded a little wrong but wasn’t sure why! [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is my mums name so very special as a middle but the two do admittedly sound long. We will think about all the other suggestions.
I just have to say that I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Fern[/name_f]! It’s on the top of our choices for this baby if she is a girl. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you get a lot of positive responses about the name?
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is awesome.
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] gets my vote between your two choices.
Other ideas:
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] Luelle
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Ruelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] is quite lovely! [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is so charming… [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is pretty. I like [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Olive[/name_f] as well…
Yes, we get very positive comments about [name_f]Fern[/name_f], as it’s so unusual and yet not outlandish or silly. Most people adore the name. On occasion we get the odd strange look, which is to be expected as it is so rare and we appreciate you can’t please everybody! If you love it go for it!
We have naturally taken to calling her Fernie as a nickname which feels so cute and adorable.
