We’re expecting our first child in [name]January[/name]. We’re Jewish and therefore, plan to name a girl after our grandmothers. Our tradition is just to use the initial though e.g. [name]Leanne[/name] is named after [name]Lily[/name]. So, we need a name with the initials ‘I’ and ‘A’. We really love [name]Iris[/name] so plan to use that as a first name but most of the ‘A’ names we like sound wrong with it. The problem seems to be that the final ‘s’ in ‘[name]Iris[/name]’ seems to create a bit of an ugly smoosh with a middle name starting with ‘a’. We vaguely considered [name]Antonia[/name] or [name]Amelia[/name] but we’re not especially enthused.
Any suggestions of ‘A’ names that sound good with [name]Iris[/name] ?
Oh shoosh. I had a [name]Iris[/name] combo pop into my head last night, it was an A middle too. I can’t recall it.

I like the suggestion of [name]Iris[/name] [name]Adele[/name]. I am so glad to see someone using [name]Iris[/name]!
I knew an [name]Iris[/name] [name]Annaliese[/name].
Hmm, [name]Avalon[/name] is very tempting … not sure if it’s a bit too unconventiona though. [name]Alexandra[/name] shall be added to our shortlist. I think 3 syllables work best with our 2-syllable surname; 2-3-2 is a good rhythm. We are avoiding anything ending in -elle as our surname is pronounced with that ending.
Would you consider [name]Azaria[/name]/[name]Azariah[/name]? That was the first name I thought of when I saw the title of your post. I know it’s traditionally a male name but I’ve only ever met girls with that name and I think it sounds pretty paired with [name]Iris[/name]…
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Aviva[/name] sprang to my mind. 3 syllables, pretty meaning that goes nicely with [name]Iris[/name].

Thank you for all those suggestions; we have a few new additions to the shortlist from your replies.
Also, I wanted to run this idea past you. We live in Yorkshire, [name]England[/name] and the river that runs through our town is the [name]Aire[/name]. Would [name]Aire[/name] be a pretty name or is that terribly hippy-ish? I thought it would be a nice subtle reference to her birthplace, especially since we will likely relocate in a few years time. Would ‘[name]Iris[/name] [name]Aire[/name]’ sound like a room fragrance?
