Middle Name for Jane

We are expecting a baby girl in [name_f]April[/name_f] and plan to name her [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. Our DD is named [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Susan[/name_f] and we call her [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. Her middle name, [name_f]Susan[/name_f], is after my mother.

I would like to honor another family member with [name_f]Jane[/name_f]'s middle name, but am not in love with any of the options. My [name_f]MIL[/name_f] is named [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], so any variation of those names would work. My great grandmother is [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and my grandmother’s middle name is [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. My other grandmother is [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. I am not in love with any of the following, but would love feedback and suggestion of possible variations! I feel like I am looking for a longer name or a more interesting name to freshen up [name_f]Jane[/name_f].

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] (variation of [name_u]Laurie[/name_u]?)
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]

I think of what you have I like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] the best

The only one on your list that doesn’t work for me is [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] - the repeating ‘n’ sound doesn’t sound good to me when it’s two 1-syllable names repeated back to back.

Purely in terms of how they sound, I think that [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a nice combo since it’s a 1-syllable, 4-syllable mix that balances each other out and has no repeating sounds. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] also works nicely, and although there is the repeating ‘n’ sound at the end, it’s ok for me because [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is 3 syllables so there’s a bit of space in between the ‘n’ from [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and the ‘n’ from [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u].

I think you have lovely honorifics to work from. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is one of the most beautiful and strong names of all times, [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is gentle and nicely vintage, [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is quirky in the right way, and [name_f]Edith[/name_f] is making a comeback. [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] is the only one that doesn’t totally fit with today’s sounds, but [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] updates it. I’m afraid I can’t think of any variations other than what you’ve got, but I really like all those names.

My vote is [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. They sound best to me.

I would get a little more uncommon in the middle name spot. I’m going to focus on [name_u]Laurie[/name_u], since I think that would be sweet to honor your [name_f]MIL[/name_f], especially since you already honored your mother. So, some twists on [name_u]Laurie[/name_u]:

[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Florentina[/name_f] (love this!)
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Lorenza[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Liora[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Lauralee[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Lorena[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] (I like this too!)

I know you don’t have it listed but I actually really like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Laurie[/name_u]. [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] would be a pretty uncommon middle name and it’s cute with [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I also like the suggestion of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] and out of the options you listed, my favorite is [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].

I also always loved the combo [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - just a suggestion!

I just realized it’s [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f] with an “h” which makes me like it more for some reason. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f] might be my favorite but [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] honors my [name_f]MIL[/name_f], so I like that too. I actually like the sound of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] but feel like could be too boring.

I love all your options! I think [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] is a precious, unique choice.

Some of these are a stretch but maybe
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Laurette[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Edita[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Lisette[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Bettina[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Everly[/name_u]

My favorite is still [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]!

These are great suggestions! I love [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Lisette[/name_f] and my husband’s grandmother is named [name_f]Bette[/name_f], so [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Bettina[/name_f] is also good. His other grandmother is name [name_f]Barbara[/name_f]. Are there any variations of that which would work?

Thanks!

I love [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. My top choice is my little one turns out to be a girl is [name_f]Jane[/name_f].

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is gorgeous (I wish my husband liked it) and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is perfect.

I also really like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f].

Congratulations!

I like [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f]. Both very cute. A name that popped into my head was [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Ellery[/name_u]—sounds like a combination of [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], just flipped.

What about [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Antonia[/name_f]? This would honor a beloved grandfather.

I love [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Antonia[/name_f]
