I posted this on your [name]Carolyn[/name] thread, so I’ll repost it here.
While I can totally see the appeal of the “Mc” names, I do think they’re a passing trend that will forever date a baby to the late 1990s and first decade of the 2000s. I guess it reminds me of the [name]McKayla[/name]/[name]Makayla[/name]/McKaila names, but feels a bit fresher.
I don’t think it’s a terrible name, but just not my style.
Being a classic name fan, I really loved your idea of [name]Caroline[/name] on your other thread. Whatever you choose, I wish you the best.
Take care!
I use to love love love [name]McKenna[/name] and then [name]Michaela[/name]/[name]Makayla[/name]'s were everywhere. That cooled my passion for it a bit but I still really like it. It would never be approved by DH anyway. I voted for [name]McKenna[/name] [name]Jade[/name] but something feels a bit off. I’ll let [name]McKenna[/name] float in my awhile and see if anything pops up.
I voted for [name]McKenna[/name] [name]Brielle[/name], but when I saw the title of the [name]Poll[/name] I immediatley thought [name]McKenna[/name] [name]Juliet[/name].
I was acquainted with a little girl named [name]McKenna[/name] (spelled differently) a few years ago and she was very cute, friendly, and bright, so I have a good association with the name and I remember thinking what an adorable name it was. I still think it’s a sweet name, substantial and fun to say but I agree with a couple of the others who said that it was/is trendy and likely to become dated. This is not necessarily a reason to give up on the name, only something to consider, depending on your preferences. There are many sweet, attractive names which sound a little dated now; maybe they can be a good reference point. [name]Remember[/name] when names like [name]Heather[/name], [name]Melissa[/name], [name]Jennifer[/name], [name]Stephanie[/name], [name]Megan[/name], [name]Ashley[/name], and [name]Courtney[/name] sounded so fresh and sophisticated? If you loved any of these names or others like them in the past, how do you feel about them now? If your name tastes are relatively consistent over time and you still find your old favorites attractive, then chances are that you will be pleased with [name]McKenna[/name] even if it doesn’t maintain its popularity. Good luck!
I would be happy with any of those names but only with [name]McKenna[/name] in the middle name position. I don’t like it as a first name.
I am not Irish or Scottish, so do not really understand these names. [name]McKenna[/name] seems like an authentic name, but [name]Jill[/name] is right, this will date severely. I liked [name]Mackenzie[/name] when I only knew one, and I LIKE [name]Michaela[/name]. It’s not supposed to be spelled [name]McKayla[/name], people.
This right there sort of undermines the authenticity and honor of using an Irish surname by just taking a name you like and adding a Mc to it. It is used in the culture for words like McMuffin or McGriddle for a [name]McDonald[/name]'s brand breakfast, or McMansion, to ridicule a certain segment of society for their materialistic desires to conform to standards of consumerism and wealth without any depth or quality, and wrecking the economy by accepting loans they could not afford.
I also think if you like it, that it’s cute, it’s entirely different if you want to use the name because it’s a family name. I’m not really strict about it, I just prefer not taking surnames at random because it’s trendy to do it, and I think the Mc’s stand out. I feel bad for the people with Mc- last names who have to live with the more negative aspects I’ve mentioned.
I don’t know if anyone has built you a list of suggestions to consider besides [name]McKenna[/name] or [name]Caroline[/name]. I think [name]McKenna[/name] is kind of nice, actually, however, my true feelings are a reaction to how bizarre that something kind of fun was overwrought by people making up names like [name]McKayla[/name] when [name]Michaela[/name] already exists, or Mc-ing other names that aren’t actually Mc names. It seems overdone and what a shame for real names to be associated with that category.
