As the title suggests, I’m trying to find a middle name to go with [name_u]Nico[/name_u] (pron. “NEE-co”). If you could eliminate one of the following possibilities, what would you axe? If you had to suggest a new middle name, what would that be? Thank you!
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u] - Like it, but it’s also the name of a large city where I live so that might be odd?
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m]
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_m]Julius[/name_m] - Family likes names that relate to months, my MN is [name_f]April[/name_f] for example. Prefer [name_m]Julius[/name_m] to [name_m]Julian[/name_m] with [name_u]Nico[/name_u] since it’s rarer.
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_m]Kendrick[/name_m] - somewhat honors my grandfather, [name_m]Kenneth[/name_m], without having to use that exact name
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_m]Quinlan[/name_m]
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_m]Silvan[/name_m]
Overall I’m looking for something uncommon, maybe a bit offbeat/quirky. Family names aren’t super important, it’s just a thought at this point.
I’d axe [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. Three things: first of all, you said you wanted something uncommon, maybe offbeat/quirky. [name_u]Everett[/name_u], at number 167, is entering the realm of popular. Second of all, [name_u]Everett[/name_u] is being used for girls. If that takes off too much, your son is stuck with a girls middle name. Lastly, you mentioned [name_u]Everett[/name_u] is a city nearby. Since it would be a middle name, it wouldn’t be weird for your son but you may or may not get raised eyebrows when you announce his name (that is, if the city is a quick thing to come to mind in your circles).
If I had to add one, it would be [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m]. I noticed that in your list there were several names of Latin origin and two -us ending names were included, so I used that as criteria. I also chose a name with three or more syllables, because I don’t like the flow of [name_u]Nico[/name_u] with a two syllable name. [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m] also has the [name_m]Mozart[/name_m] connection, being [name_m]Mozart[/name_m]'s middle name. [name_m]How[/name_m] cool would it be to tell your son that he shares a middle name with one of the greatest composers in history? So if you’re classical music fans, this would be a great bonus. Also [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m] is not at all common which fits your criteria well.
I know [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m] would be a bit of a stretch maybe, but I honestly think it would be received well by friends. It’s a name with great history and a gentle but strong sound. This is what it would look like: [name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m].
I’d axe [name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_m]Quinlan[/name_m]. I like [name_u]Quin[/name_u], but [name_m]Quinlan[/name_m] feels like too much K sound with [name_u]Nico[/name_u]. I’d add [name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_m]Matthias[/name_m]…just because I think it’s handsome.
@smartie352: Thanks so much for your detailed answer, I appreciate it! Yeah, [name_u]Everett[/name_u] is kinda getting up there in popularity. The city name is certainly a concern since a while back I fancied another city name in our area and got nothing but jokes about it. Sigh! [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m] is a handsome suggestion.
@kala_way: [name_u]True[/name_u], the sounds clash. Hmm yeah, I could probably find a better name to pair with it. [name_m]Matthias[/name_m] is nice!
@agreene: I like [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]! I had [name_u]August[/name_u] on my list, but for a MN [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] feels doable.
I would remove [name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] for the simple reason that I don’t really like the name [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] (and pps mentioned the others I would have taken off). And other names that you listed seemed to have importance to you…
I would suggest [name_u]Nico[/name_u] [name_m]Valentin[/name_m]
ps I love [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m], [name_m]Silvan[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] and [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]!
@opelle: A little importance, yeah! I’m not sure if I want to use honoring names. It’s a nice bonus, but not my top priority, if that makes sense. [name_m]Valentin[/name_m] is a great name!
@neve_a: Thanks for breaking it down that way. I like [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] and [name_m]Leander[/name_m] of your suggestions. I also like [name_u]Orion[/name_u], [name_m]Archer[/name_m], and [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m], but maybe not paired with [name_u]Nico[/name_u] specifically.
