I was a member a few years ago (username was casilda) but life got busy and I stopped posting. My daughter is 3. I adopted her from Armenia and there, the father’s first name is given to the child as their middle name. Since I am single, my daughter didn’t get a middle name after adoption.
When I apply for her American birth certificate later this month, I will be able to add a middle name.
A few I like but am unsure of:
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] - [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is my great-grandma’s middle name. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] would also honor my grandma [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] and [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]'s birth mother. Any [name_f]Mary[/name_f] variants you would recommend?
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] - [name_m]Just[/name_m] because I like it. Only issue is that my mom used to have a dog called [name_f]Rosie[/name_f].
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - My godfather is [name_m]Joseph[/name_m].
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]/[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] - Would honor the same people as [name_f]Mary[/name_f].
I would also consider honoring my mom, [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f], but don’t want to use that. Maybe [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]? Also, nothing with a long a since that’s where the emphasis is in [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]. Any other suggestions?
I love that you can honor so many people with a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] variant, so my favorite of your list is [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] itself has many meanings, such as “sea,” “wished for child,” and “beloved.” Some ideas based on this:
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Desiree[/name_f] “desired, wished”
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Fantine[/name_f] “child”
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Maris[/name_f] “of the sea”
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] “sea lord, great lord”
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] “dew of the sea”
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Maris[/name_f]
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f] - Hesitant to use another vowel though since both first and last name start with one.
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] are my favourite of those.
I think I slightly prefer [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], as its different from all the [name_f]Rose[/name_f]- names you get in the middle spot these days.
Oh and your mums dog being called [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] is nothing to worry about! This is her middle name after all.
I think [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is gorgeous as is and wouldn’t want to change it to any variation of [name_f]Mary[/name_f], which would seem to take away the beautiful simplicity and strength of the classic [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. It complements [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] perfectly. I also think [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is quite gorgeous. I think your other options are too fussy next to [name_f]Octavia[/name_f].
I like how [name_f]Mary[/name_f] balances the long [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] and honors multiple people. [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] would be lovely as well, combining [name_f]Mary[/name_f] with [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f].
I vote [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. With a long, fancy name like [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] I believe shorter simpler middle names work better to enhance the beauty of the first name, not to over power it.
I love all of those middles with [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], you can’t go wrong! I don’t think it’s an issue if your mom used to have a dog named [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] if you pick [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f].
Honestly, [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is my favorite. The short, classic MN balances out the elaborate, less common (but very beautiful) FN. (Granted, my first name is [name_f]Mary[/name_f].)
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] and [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] are my favorites
I like the three syllable middle!
