After lots of back and forth about names, we have agreed on [name_f]Oona[/name_f] as a first name. Now we’re stuck on a middle name. Her last name is [name_m]German[/name_m], 2 syllables, rhymes with “fur cars”.
If she is born on my grandma’s 100th birthday (she passed away this fall, bday is close to due date) her name will be [name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I don’t love the sound or syllable combo, I want to do it as a tribute.
Otherwise, these are our thoughts. Please choose one, or suggest your own idea. Go!
Yay! I love the name [name_f]Oona[/name_f]! My favorite is [name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] – I usually favor [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], but i can’t decide which i like more in this case. [name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is also very sweet.
A couple other ideas
[name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] (i used to have this on my list. not the best flow with 2-2 syllables, but something about it i love)
[name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] (similar flow to [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]/[name_f]Azalea[/name_f], nature name like [name_f]Azalea[/name_f], but i think flows better)
[name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]- sweet, yet strong and sassy. Absolutely stunning and beautiful- it has an Old Hollywood sensibility that I love (à la [name_f]Oona[/name_f] O’[name_m]Neill[/name_m] and [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]West[/name_u]). [name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is really fun too.
[name_f]Oona[/name_f] is heavy on the vowels, so I think it flows really well with [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], which has a lot of hard consonants. [name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is gorgeous!
As far as other suggestions, for some reason, [name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] stuck in my head and I have no idea why. It’s probably not your style but I thought I’d share just in case!
Thanks all! I think I’m narrowed down to [name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], and [name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f]. Now to get in agreement with my husband…
I’m very excited for a little [name_f]Oona[/name_f]. I’ve always loved the name, and it just seems right for this little one.
I actually rather like [name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f] quite a bit. Since [name_f]Irene[/name_f] stresses the last syllable, the flow isn’t bad at all in my opinion. I still say that [name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f] is gorgeous, but if you’re still concerned about the syllable count of [name_f]Irene[/name_f], another option could be the Greek [name_f]Eirene[/name_f], pronounced eye-[name_f]REE[/name_f]-nee. From your list, I also really like [name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] (so hard to choose!) and [name_f]Oona[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f].
