Middle Name for Orlaith?

I love the name [name_f]Orla[/name_f], but the spelling gets a fair amount of not so nice comments, so I’ve switched to the [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] spelling  Spelling issues don’t bother me, as this is one I really see myself using on a daughter.

As far as middles, so far I like [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f], and [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], but I’m not sure on them.

What middles do you like with [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] ([name_f]Orla[/name_f])? The spelling of [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] is non-negotiable :stuck_out_tongue:

~ * bump * ~

Such a beautiful name. [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] sounds royal.

I wasn’t familiar with the [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] spelling so I did a quick google and there is apparently a girl from Big Brother UK that is kind of…to put it nicely…free with her body…so that was the only thing that came up when I googled the name. That kind of bummed me out on the spelling.

to be honest, I really really adore the name, and have always been reminded of how [name_f]Orla[/name_f] can become [name_m]Oral[/name_m] with the swap of two letters, so I’m not letting anything take away from [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f]. She’ll likely be forgotten about when I have children and use the name, my spelling of it isn’t changing.

Of the options, I’m preferring [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f].

I’m liking an -n ending with it:
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Gillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_u]Vivien[/name_u]

Or I could see sticking to very Irish indeed picks, to match it:
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] or [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Sinead[/name_f]
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Roisin[/name_f]

So? You’re looking to call her a slut, which is problematic in itself (she can do whatever she wants with her body), but there are girls with absolutely ALL names with ‘‘morals’’ you would personally question. You think there aren’t sexually promiscuous girls called [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or [name_f]Anne[/name_f]?

[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] has been around for centuries, and is the legitimate Irish spelling. It isn’t defined by an individual who’s lifestyle/dress-sense you happen to disagree with, and was on Big Brother once (nobody even cares about those people anyway. They’re barely even a pop culture reference) Are you kidding?

I also find it interesting how people are against misspellings until it fits their lifestyle.

ANYWAY…
I think [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is beautiful, and pretty much perfect. I’d also add…
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f]

[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] is a beautiful name, I like both spellings. [name_m]Just[/name_m] curious, would you spell it with the fada on the O? [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is pretty but I’m not sure [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] sounds quite right

From what I’ve seen of your previous threads you like classics, right?

[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Colette[/name_f]
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]

Thank you everyone! I am leaning more towards [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] too.

@stripedsocks - [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is beautiful!

@oliviasarah - haha, thank you for defending [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f]. I really love it, haha. :stuck_out_tongue: I love [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], so gorgeous!

@potofgold - Thank you, I do as well. I’m not sure what you mean about the fada, though haha. I love the classics, [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] are delightful - i also seem to like [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f].

I think she was saying that it was the only ‘real’ thing popping up when googling it.
Like when you google [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] you get thousands of different websites and pictures (even in the preview on the main page) while when you google [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f], it’s mostly this particular women.

I don’t really get what you mean with the second part though.
Who misspelled something to make it fit their lifestyle?
[name_f]Orla[/name_f] is a phonetic spelling that has been around for quite a while now. It is also a place name.

[name_f]Orla[/name_f] is also the top spelling in [name_f]England[/name_f], [name_m]Wales[/name_m], [name_f]Scotland[/name_f], Northern [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] and the Republic of [name_f]Ireland[/name_f], looking at charts anyways. I didnt even see that part of the reply until now.

I don’t count [name_f]Orla[/name_f] as a misspelling. It isn’t like, say, Skarlett or Vyolit. It’s a legitimate version of the name.

That makes sense. I just wasn’t familiar with this particular spelling so I thought why not give it a quick search.

Wow you let that escalate unnecessarily really quickly…no reason to get so upset.

If we really want to get technical about spellings [name_f]Orla[/name_f] is actually the male Danish version…where the original spelling is Órfhlaith for the female Irish version.

[name_f]Orlaith[/name_f] is beautiful. Stick to your guns!

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] is great as there are so many strong [name_f]Marys[/name_f] from history. Think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Shelley[/name_u], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] Wollstonecraft etc. Good role models. But have also always had a soft spot for [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. It’s very sexy when said in a [name_m]French[/name_m] accent! Alternatively, I like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_u]Devin[/name_u], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f].

That’s odd. I didnt realise there was a Danish version, let alone a male one. Sounds like [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f]/[name_f]Orla[/name_f] is causing more problems than needed. Really didn’t think any arguments would spring up when all I did was ask for middle names.

Thank you to those who gave input, but I’m going to close this now before it gets out of hand.
