Middle Name for Rowan?

My partner and I have chosen the name [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_m]Arrow[/name_m] for a boy, my partner loves [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and I picked [name_m]Arrow[/name_m] because of the symbolism of an arrow only being shot by being pulled backwards so when life is dragging you back it means you’ll soon be launched into something great. [name_u]Everett[/name_u] would be our something great.

We have chosen the name [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for a girl, it’s a long time favourite of mine that has been on my list since I was a teenager. However, we are struggling with a middle name that have a strong symbolism like [name_m]Arrow[/name_m] does. We have considered [name_f]Iris[/name_f] because it means rainbow and after a storm there is always the hope and beauty of a rainbow, and we’ve considered [name_f]Olive[/name_f] because extending an olive branch is a symbol of peace.

However, we aren’t sure [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] or [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Olive[/name_f] has the right flow as [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_m]Arrow[/name_m].

Can you help us with suggestions for a meaningful middle name for [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]? Our surname is Valliquette-Foote (pronounced val-ih-ket foot).

Thank you.

Ohhhh love [name_f]Olive[/name_f]! Great meaning and it’s adorable!!!

[name_m]How[/name_m] about

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Amity[/name_f] (means friendship). Not sure what the symbolism could be but I like the flow of it.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] (a place where [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] was put to rest after battle, where he will rise once again). Symbolism could mean that life is full of misadventures but that won’t stop you from getting back on your feet.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] (means dawn). Symbolism could be that no matter what is going on in your life or where you are the sun will always rise.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Lux[/name_f] (means light). There is always light at the end of the tunnel

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Verity[/name_f] (means truth). The truth will set you free.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Psyche[/name_f] (name of the Greek goddess of the soul). Again, not sure what the symbolism could be but the flow of it is really nice.

I hope these names aren’t too “out there” for you, but I love the idea and I think [name_m]Everette[/name_m] [name_m]Arrow[/name_m] is perfect!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] that your names have such meaning for you! [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_m]Arrow[/name_m] is pretty great.

Good suggestions above. A few more ideas:

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Delta[/name_f] — [name_f]Delta[/name_f] is a symbol for change, transformation and renewal, and a delta is formed where a river meets the ocean. Perhaps these ideas could spark meaning for you? The name has some oomph that I love.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]Harmony[/name_u]

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] — Lilacs are in the class of flowers that flourish after a wildfire ([name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] are others); in fact, they need fires to germinate and grow. I like the symbolism of flourishing after the fires of life, and using trials to grow and blossom.

Rowan Dove
Rowan Joule (unit of energy)
Rowan Aviva
Rowan Hypatia
Rowan Caesura (the grand pause in music…could be a reference to a turning point)

I do love the idea of using [name_f]Iris[/name_f] or [name_f]Olive[/name_f] as a middle for [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], but I agree that the flow isn’t quite right. I wonder if it’s a problem caused by having two two-syllable names in a row, which creates a slightly halting flow. I think a longer middle name might work best with [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], and here are some of my suggestions:

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]-I know that this is a very popular name, but it carries the same meaning as [name_f]Olive[/name_f] with a slightly more rythmic quality and in the middle spot I don’t think that popularity is so important. [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is really nice!

[name_f]Olivette[/name_f]-Another take on [name_f]Olive[/name_f] if [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] isn’t up your street.

Iridessa-If [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is your favourite of the two, why not consider Iridessa? A pretty variation of [name_f]Iris[/name_f] which carries the same meaning.

[name_f]Irisa[/name_f]-This is the Russian version of [name_f]Iris[/name_f], pronounced I-[name_f]REE[/name_f]-SA. It’s pretty and solves the two syllable problem of [name_f]Iris[/name_f].

[name_f]Harmonia[/name_f]-This is a Latin name meaning unity, a lovely positive meaning for a middle name.

[name_f]Rainbow[/name_f]-Whilst it may be completely not your style, or far too obvious in it’s meaning. I think [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Rainbow[/name_f] has a lovely alliterative quality. I can see [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_m]Arrow[/name_m] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Rainbow[/name_f] being siblings.

I love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Lux[/name_f], however my partner knows a dog name [name_f]Lux[/name_f] and won’t go for it. I do like the idea of using a name that means or symbolizes light. I am going to run [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] past my partner, my middle name is [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] so it has a subtle connection to me as well.

I can’t jump on board with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], it’s just too common for my tastes. [name_f]Olivette[/name_f] though it beautiful. I adore it’s “t” heavy sound with our “t” heavy surname. [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Olivette[/name_f]. I’ll have to run that one past my partner.

Keep us updated! [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is such a beautiful name:D

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Delta[/name_f] is so pretty! It seems to have the type of meaning you are looking for, and it has nice flow with your surname.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Clarity[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Charity[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]Justice[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Glory[/name_f]

My partner wasn’t a fan of [name_f]Olivette[/name_f], so we’ve decided to go with our original choice of [name_f]Maeve[/name_f].

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f].

[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] honors my best friend who passed away, her middle name is [name_f]Mae[/name_f].

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is beautiful!

I really love this choice, especially since [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] could, for you, be [name_f]Mae[/name_f]+[name_f]Eve[/name_f], since [name_f]Eve[/name_f] means life.
