Middle Name for Ruth? Help!

I’m pregnant with my second child. If it’s a girl, I would like to name her “[name]Ruth[/name]” (an important family name for us) and call her “[name]Ruthie[/name].” But I can’t think of a good middle name! I know [name]Ruth[/name] ends up being a middle name itself a lot but I’d really prefer to have [name]Ruth[/name] come first. I like the name “[name]Anne[/name]” but not with [name]Ruth[/name] so that option is out. Any other ideas? Our last name has two syllables, starts with “R” and ends with a “y” sound. Thanks so much for your help! xo

Some options
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]

[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Anastasia[/name]

Good luck!!

[name]One[/name] of my best friends is [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name] and I always thought that was beautiful. And if you like [name]Anne[/name] as a mn, but not with [name]Ruth[/name], you could do [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Anna[/name] or [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Annabelle[/name] instead.

[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Francesca[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Marianne[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Willow[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Jessamy[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]

I think [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Susannah[/name] is beautiful. That would be my top pick.

[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Priscilla[/name] is also pretty and a bit more spunky.

I can see smething longer and frillier with [name]Ruth[/name].

The repeats are the ones I second.

[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Seraphina[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Isabella[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Rosamund[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Carlotta[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Anneliese[/name]/Anneliesa
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Delphine[/name]/[name]Delphina[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Isadora[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Zinnia[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Jessamine[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Elowen[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Corisande[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Coralie[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Carolina[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Anastasia[/name]

When you mentioned [name]Anne[/name], [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Anneliese[/name] instantly came to mind. I also like [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Amelie[/name] or another 3 or 4 syl. name ending in a long e sound, like [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Coralie[/name], [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Penelope[/name], etc.

Oh, this is all so helpful. Thank you thank you! I especially love [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Delphina[/name], [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Susannah[/name], and [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name] – I completely agree that [name]Ruth[/name]'s short, straightforwardness seems to want to be complimented with something frillier/ something with more syllables

I guess the problem I’ve always had is that names with [name]Ruth[/name] seem to roll off the tongue better if [name]Ruth[/name] comes second (which is why it’s usually a middle name, I guess…). So, for example, [name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] or [name]Juliet[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] seem to sound better to my ear than the other way around even though I love both names. What to you think? [name]Do[/name] other people not feel this way? Am I being overly worried about this? Would really love to have [name]Ruth[/name] as the first name.

You guys are the best!

I actually prefer [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] to [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] as the -th’s run together a bit.

I think you’re psyching yourself out a bit. [name]Both[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] sound lovely to my ear. It’s true that [name]Ruth[/name] is more commonly used as a middle name, but it’s a lovely first! [name]One[/name] syllable names are often difficult to find middles for, because the flow is a bit trickier. But I think their simplicity (and the fact that the mn is really very rarely used) offsets any negatives.

I grew up with a girl named [name]Ruth[/name] (she’s probably early 30’s right now). I always thought her name was interesting and unique. [name]Ruthie[/name] is super cute too!

With the likes of [name]Anne[/name] and [name]Rose[/name], many one syllable names like [name]Ruth[/name] are often used to give a slight pause between the first and last name. It often breaks up an often 2-1-2 syllable count. I’d like to bring up your last name which your original post said begins with R and is 2 syllables. It sounds less monotone if each part of the full name had a different syllable count so 1-?-2 for [name]Ruth[/name] (blank) R. I’d go with a 3 syllable middle name for a 1-3-2 sound. Why don’t you consider the name [name]Annabel[/name]? If that doesn’t suit you, you can look on the lists and they have one specifically for 3 syllable names or you can do a Super Search. Finally, how do you feel about have double initials R-?-R. If it doesn’t bother you that’s fine.

My grandma’s middle name is [name]Ruth[/name], but she’s always been called [name]Ruthie[/name].

I love [name]Ruthie[/name]! [name]How[/name] about [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]?

[name]Ruth[/name] is a family name for me too…

I like [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Claire[/name]

Thank you so much for this! I love the name [name]Claire[/name]…always been tempted to use it as a first name. And [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] does sound great to my ear. I’ve thought about having [name]Ruth[/name] as a middle name and then using [name]Ruthie[/name] – I thanks for reminding me that that’s an option! Also, many thanks for the much needed pep talk about [name]Ruth[/name] as a first name!

Hello fellow [name]Ruth[/name] lover! [name]Ruth[/name] has come out of nowhere to the head of my list in the last few weeks for my daughter who is due in [name]October[/name]. I’m using [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Barbara[/name] and while I get that [name]Barbara[/name] is not a very fashionable name (tbh, I’ve never really liked it, but it’s my mother’s name), to me it sounds ‘just right’ after [name]Ruth[/name]. My last name is two syllables, starting with B and ending with r.
