We like middle names that honor family, but the only people I can think of that I’d like to honor are my brother [name_u]James[/name_u] (but [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] is a form of [name_u]James[/name_u], so that would be a redundant middle name) and my husband’s uncle [name_m]Tom[/name_m] (but [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] sounds pretty silly). So, at this point I’m just looking for any suggestions of middle names that would work with [name_m]Seamus[/name_m]. Ideas?
I like [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m], the J could honor [name_u]James[/name_u] or you could look at his middle name or other variants
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Connor[/name_m]
My brother’s middle name is [name_m]Michael[/name_m], which definitely works (because it works with everything!), but it seems pretty generic. It was my grandma’s father’s name, though, so it does have significance. Uncle [name_m]Tom[/name_m]'s middle name was Aquinas (yes, [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] Aquinas - DH’s family is super Catholic), so that’s not really an option.
Neither [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] nor [name_m]Connor[/name_m] are my cup of tea, but thanks anyway.
Well, why not [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_u]Niall[/name_u]? I think it has a nice enough flow, and it is an awesome pairing. Other suggestions:
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_m]Riordan[/name_m]
[name_m]Lorcan[/name_m]
[name_m]Ciar[/name_m]
[name_m]Earnan[/name_m]
[name_m]Lonan[/name_m]
To honor [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]:
[name_m]Tamerlane[/name_m]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Tobin[/name_m]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Aloysius[/name_m]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Tavish[/name_m]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_u]Reilly[/name_u]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Clark[/name_m]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Cillian[/name_m]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] Atholl
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Colm[/name_m]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Tam[/name_m] - abbreviation for [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] used in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Thom[/name_m] - can be used as a name in itself
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_u]Jem[/name_u]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Iago[/name_m] - double [name_u]James[/name_u]!
I actually kind of like [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Tom[/name_m]…
chrisco - That’s a good point, lol! We weren’t intending to use an Irish name for first and middle, but why not?
louisa - Thank you! I think I love [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]! Not sure why I didn’t think of it myself. [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is my favorite uncle’s name (I know it’s not nice to have favorites, but…well, it’s the truth!) and he gave one of his daughter’s my name as a middle (not in a name-stealing way, but specifically in my honor - he even spelled it like mine, even though he didn’t really want to - LOL!), so maybe it would make sense for me to return the favor?
southern.maple - I kind of do too, but I feel odd about using a nickname as a middle name. He was a great person, though. I hardly had a chance to know him, but I still miss him. I hope one of his other nieces or nephew will use his name if we don’t.
Aahh perfect! I’m so glad that you like [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]! I have to admit it came to me because of [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] Guinness!! But if your favourite uncle was called [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] then it just seems like fate! [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is very handsome!
I agree with southern.maple… [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] [name_m]Thom[/name_m] or [name_m]Tom[/name_m] sounds great!
LOL! Well, Guinness is my husband’s favorite beer.
