Middle Name for Shepherd

We have decided to name our son [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]. He is due in [name_f]July[/name_f]. For his middle name, we are deciding between [name_m]Scott[/name_m] or [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Scott[/name_m] is my husband’s middle name, after his uncle we aren’t close to. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband likes how it sounds and that it’s a family name. I do like how it sounds but don’t particularly like [name_m]Scott[/name_m] as its own name. [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] is much more my style, but it doesn’t have any family connection and no cute alliteration. Which do you prefer?

I prefer [name_m]Scott[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- it may not originally[name_f][/name_f] come from someone you’re close to but the fact it’s a connection to your husband is nice. I don’t particularly like [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] because of the association with [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m], but that’s personal and I appreciate there are other connections.

first of all, i love [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]! :ram:

second, with what i’m hearing, i think [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] is perfect. i also adore [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] (it’s actually on mine and my husband’s list too!), but i always think if i were a little boy, i’d love to share a middle name with my dad. it would be such a special connection for them, and as you mentioned, the alliteration is so cute! :light_blue_heart:

I think maybe [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] is a bit too much with two nouny names but I am not particularly moved by [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] so…

I think my vote falls with [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m].

[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is so handsome! [name_f][/name_f] I visually prefer Rhodes—I like it more than [name_m]Scott[/name_m], stylistically it appeals to me more too—but I don’t like that it sounds like “shepherd roads” like a type of street. [name_f][/name_f] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] would be great brothers though—and I love that [name_m]Scott[/name_m] would honor your husband! [name_f][/name_f] I think I’d go for [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] myself. [name_f][/name_f] All the best!

I think [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is such a handsome name really rugged, outdoorsy and spiritual. [name_f]Love[/name_f] him.

[name_f][/name_f]

I like both [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] & [name_m]Scott[/name_m] however with [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] I love [name_m]Scott[/name_m]. I like how grounded, handsome and reliable [name_m]Scott[/name_m] is. I love the alliteration of [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] and I think it would be sweet for father and son to share a middle name.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps

[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] looks and feels lovely, but when I say it I kind of hear “shepherd roads” [name_f][/name_f]— as in, paths used by shepherds?

[name_f][/name_f]

For that reason and the family connection, my vote goes to [name_m]Scott[/name_m].

I think Shepherd Scott sounds good - solid, balanced, but kind of earthy too. And, with Scottie being in style, Scott might start to sound fresher?

(I’d even consider mixing the two and doing Shepherd Rhett  )

[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] is a handsome choice.

I am not usually a fan of [name_m]Scott[/name_m] on it’s own but in this combination I do enjoy the bright, crisp sound it adds. I’m also big on middle names carrying a good story, so unless [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] has special meaning to you I would go with [name_m]Scott[/name_m] for the shared middle name between father and son.

[name_f][/name_f]

If you do choose [name_m]Scott[/name_m] – [name_f][/name_f] were I in the same position I would want my husband to agree that the next child’s middle name would reflect my family or my preference in some way.

[name_f][/name_f]

All the best with your decision!

I like [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]. I like the flow of it better. [name_m]The[/name_m] double -d endings in [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] doesn’t roll off the tongue as well. [name_m]Scott[/name_m] is a little plain, but I think [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] really modernizes it. It’s a cool, zippy combo with good meaning.

[name_m]Shepard[/name_m] [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] feels rugged but not bad. It isn’t alliterative but does have a similar vibe. Plus its the last name of [name_m]Iron[/name_m] Man’s right hand man, and potentially opens up the nn [name_m]Rhodey[/name_m]!

[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] was our pick if our second was a boy [name_f][/name_f]! I love [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] so much and I am so happy to see it being used

[name_f][/name_f]

I think I like [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] the best [name_f][/name_f]!
