middle name for Wilder and opinions on Thackeray

Dantea stated that she knew a [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]. [name_u]Shilo[/name_u] offered lots of great suggestions, two being [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] and [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m]. This got me thinking. We are a literature loving family, my extended family included. One of the reasons we love [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. I really like the sound of [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]. Heavy on author names but I feel really works.

I really like [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m]. The flow is not that good. Honestly it sounds better as [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. Which I am really loving now. Does [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] work as a first name? Thoughts on [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] and also on [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m]. Would people confuse [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] as [name_m]Zachary[/name_m]?

Some other middle names we have been thinking about for [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] are- [name_u]Frost[/name_u], [name_m]Riordan[/name_m], [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] (I prefer this spelling over [name_u]Eliot[/name_u]), [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], and [name_m]Beckett[/name_m].

I am also still liking [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_u]Pax[/name_u].

I must just love [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] with other words as middles. [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_u]Pax[/name_u] and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_u]Frost[/name_u] are so poetic and gorgeous!

I think it sounds better as [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. Incidentally, one of the guys I play DnD with has an 8 (I think) year old son named [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m]. I thought he was saying [name_m]Zachery[/name_m] for a long time though before I finally asked and he told me [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] and that that was a problem most people seemed to have. I personally don’t like [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] that much and think [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] is better of the two. Flow isn’t the most important thing, meaning is. [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] means a lot to you, it should be up front.

If you’d like some more suggestions:

[name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] – [name_m]Wilkes[/name_m] from Gone With the Wind (I know a teen [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], so it’s being used)

Thank you, dantea.

Not that [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] is a bad name but that is definitely a concern if using [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] as a first name.

[name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_u]Finch[/name_u] is fun and very unexpected. I wonder if it a bit too much.

I have always loved the meaning of [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]. [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] is very handsome.

I personally love both. I think [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] is really handsome. [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] may not have the best flow on it’s on but when I say it with a surname, it flows alot better. I don’t know what your surname is but I would try saying it with yours and see how it sounds.

When I think I love a name I wait until I’m alone in the car or FI is at work or something. Then I say it out loud to myself a few times. First name then first and middle and then I add the surname. My pets think I’m crazy but then I pretend I have a child by that name and they’re in trouble and I yell their name like they’re in their room and I want them to come out. Does it feel right? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you feel weird saying it or yelling it? If so, then it’s not the one.

I do the same thing. It works. The flow of [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] is better with our surname. We have also said it so many times now our ears are getting used to the names together. I find it more important to have the first name and surname flow well.

This afternoon when calling the dogs I accidentally called one [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. I asked if that was a sign. I’m sure it is only because that is what has been on my mind the last couple days.

We are down to [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_u]Pax[/name_u], [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m], and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u].

I hope I don’t offend but I’m really not feeling [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_u]Pax[/name_u]. It makes me think of a wild pack of animals… like “wilder packs” I guess. I really like [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] and [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m]. I think I like [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] a little bit more because it has that magical literature feel for me like [name_m]Espen[/name_m] [name_m]Rigby[/name_m] does. I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_m]Espen[/name_m] [name_m]Rigby[/name_m] because it sounds like an awesome character in an awesome book. I feel like [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] gives off that same feeling. I especially love [name_m]Espen[/name_m] [name_m]Rigby[/name_m] and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] in combination with [name_u]Gray[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. In the event you ever had 3 more boys :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you for pointing out wilder packs. I am surprised I did not hear that.

I was told that [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] needed to be moved to the second spot. Now that you mention it, [name_m]Espen[/name_m] [name_m]Rigby[/name_m], [name_u]Gray[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u], and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] do have the feel of strong characters from a novel.

I must say, I absolutely love reading your posts because every name you inquire about I just adore! I think [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] Thackery is an awesome name. I think I might love it slightly more than your [name_m]Espen[/name_m] [name_m]Rigby[/name_m]. :). Now, if I conceive a boy, do you want to name him? Hubby and I are still struggling.

I like [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] but agree that I would probably hear Thackery as [name_m]Zackary[/name_m]. I don’t love [name_u]Pax[/name_u] but do like [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]. I also like [name_u]Gray[/name_u]. Am I too late to suggest [name_m]Tennyson[/name_m] as a middle? Or [name_m]Tennyson[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]?

Best of luck!

Thank you. So very kind. Honestly, if you want, you could private message me and I could help offer suggestions.

[name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Tennyson[/name_m] is super handsome, same with [name_m]Tennyson[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. We are feeling pretty attached to [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] already. I think the combo was said so many times yesterday that it just seems like the two go together now. I have to think about [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Tennyson[/name_m]. Thank you for the suggestion.

We had a discussion on how [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is pronounced. I pronounce it more like while-der. I thought I said it wild-er until I started calling it out.

I know a little girl named [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] Vonne. I love it. You could use a more masculine spelling, [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Vaughn[/name_m].

A guys perspective? Your naming a baby, not a book or a new up scale line of perfume. He’s also going to be very fairly small for a while, and a big, long, multi syllable name is going to seem awfully pretentious. Also, he’s going to have to live with that name forever. Most of the names youre thinking of are too far out with no easily formed diminutive to help him on the playground or the classroom or the board room.

Personally, I think unusual names are neat… to a point. But when you get into tongue twisters or things that sound unnatural together or are just extremely unusual to the point of odd…you’ve gone too far. Using some frame of reference …be it authors or deceased family members or parts of nature are all fine as long as they don’t clash with the other needs your son will have, like being accepted and feeling comfortable in his own skin.

I do understand where you are coming from. I have a son, a teenager, and I work with families and children. I have heard lots of names. A child’s middle name is rarely used. Most people would never know his middle name was [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m]. His family would know and close friends. [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] is special to us, it does not need to be excepted by others. When I have discussed [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] with neighbors, people around town, my son’s friends, they all have very positive things to say about the name. A person is small for a very short period of their life. I can easily picture a lawyer, doctor, mayer (not that I want my child being any of these things) named [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. Actually people would take more notice of him because he would not be another [name_u]Alex[/name_u], [name_m]David[/name_m], [name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. Honestly I can not see how [name_m]Espen[/name_m], [name_u]Finley[/name_u], [name_u]Gray[/name_u], and [name_m]Asher[/name_m] have gone too far. I also do not see [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m] as a name of an upscale perfume. [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is strong and masculine.

Thank you! I will do just that once I have a neater list to share. I am seriously out of ideas!
