Hello there. We are looking for a middle name for our baby girl who’s due in a few months. We are ALMOST certain her name is gonna be [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], but as it’s too popular we’re not 100% sure yet. However, our option #2 is also quite popular. So we are looking a middle name. A middle name she can use all the time if she wants (like I do, I’m known as [name_f]Lisbeth[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f], never just [name_f]Lisbeth[/name_f]), as both names are quite popular, I want her to have something she could be hesides her first name if that makes any sense.
These are the names we’re thinking about now:
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]/[name_f]Sofie[/name_f] _______ [name_m]Oswald[/name_m]*
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] ______ [name_m]Oswald[/name_m]* (we’re leaning towards [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] at the moment)
Names we love: [name_f]Stella[/name_f]/[name_f]Estella[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f] (but wouldn’t use it because I’m a huge doctor who fan but not so much to name my kid with a name that close to the name of a character, [name_f]Claire[/name_f] would be fine though, I guess), [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] (but wouldn’t use it because our family just got a little [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]), [name_f]Anya[/name_f]/[name_f]Anja[/name_f]. So we would like to know what ideas you get from seeing these.
Names we don’t like: Generally long names (of course there are some we love but we wouldn’t use them unless we completely fell in love with the) and names that are too hard to spell or read. (I love [name_f]Niamh[/name_f], for example, but it’s such a stretch from the actual pronounciation and [name_f]Neve[/name_f] is just not that appealing to me).
Our last name starts with an O and rhymes perfectly with the name [name_m]Oswald[/name_m], so that’s why I used it as an example. Names with an [name_f]ELLE[/name_f] ending (like [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and so many others sound a bit weird with it so we’re not considering them)
I like both [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. Really nice first name choices.
I wouldn’t necessarily pair either with [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]… I like [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] but but the -ee sound ending of both [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] rhymes with the --ee sound ending of [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]. (Which is fine if you don’t use them both every day but if do… that might be much).
I can see how something that would rhyme with [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_m]Oswald[/name_m] might be problematic – maybe less so if you live in the US than in the UK though.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about these:
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Ester[/name_f] (Prn: the spanish way ES-ter)
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]-[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
or [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Anja[/name_f]
Quick Last Thought: I think maybe you’re running into a flow problem – it looks like alot of the names you like have 2 syllables as does youre last name (presumably). That makes for a fairly choppy flow… Think of your own name… [name_f]Lisbeth[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] (2-1) in comparison [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] (2-2) and [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] (2-2). I know you said you don’t like longer names but I’d consider some 1 or 3 syllable names as they might make the flow easier and feel more complete to you when you do hear them.
for example:
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (long form of [name_f]Daisy[/name_f])
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
I actually do love the idea of 2-2-2 with the stress on the first syllable but I guess that’s just personal taste since most of the names I like happen to have 2 syllables and the stress on the first one (add [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f] and so many others to the list haha) but I can totally see where you come from and I really appreciate your input! The problem with [name_f]Clara[/name_f] isn’t exactly having people think it’s some sort of reference (because I would totally do a reference to a character I love, at least I think I would) but more to myself, I don’t feel very comfortable with that image of having the name waaay to close even though she was a character I enjoyed. I’m still not keen on anything longer, [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], for example just doesn’t feel right, but again it’s all about personal taste, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], though! I actually considered [name_u]Rae[/name_u] for both [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] before but for some reason [name_f]Mae[/name_f] went completely over my head. Thank you so much!!
I like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and would also suggest [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] although it is a long name…so I guess that one is out. I would furthermore suggest:
