Hello, I am due in a few months and my husband and I have decided on [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] for a first name (last name one syllable). We are trying to decide on a middle name. We both really like the sound of [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u], but it is not a family name
I really wanted to honor my mother (and my mother in law if possible). My mom’s middle name is [name_u]Kay[/name_u] (first name [name_f]Barbara[/name_f]) and my mother in laws name is [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f].
I am deciding if we should drop [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] and go with [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] S. Or, I kind of like the sound of [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_f]Kaylin[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] S. (or maybe just [name_f]Kaylin[/name_f] and drop [name_f]Marie[/name_f] if it sounds too long?) I am afraid my mother in law may feel hurt if I don’t include her name. Or, I thought about combining [name_u]Kay[/name_u] and [name_f]Marie[/name_f] into [name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_f]Mae[/name_f] (may be too far off from honoring my mother though). What are your thoughts? Should we just use the name that sounds best that we both like or have two middle names to honor family? What combination do you like?
I think you should go with what you love! There is no rule that you need to name your child after anyone. [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] is a cute name. Or what about [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]? Combining [name_u]Kay[/name_u] and [name_f]Marie[/name_f]?
I prefer [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u].
Keep it simple, if you plan to have other children you can honor your other relatives with their names.
I think [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_f]Kaylin[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] sounds like a win here, you get the honoring of two important women but the sound you and your husband both enjoy. You could even still call her [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] on occasion.
We aren’t planning on having any more children (we have a 2 year old boy)… so this will be my mom’s last grandchild (neither of my brothers 2 girls honored my amazing mother). So, I definitely [name_f]DO[/name_f] want to include [name_u]Kay[/name_u] in some way… just not sure how to do it. I’m not sure if my mother in law will be upset if her first female grandchild doesn’t have a part of her name or not (kelly marie). So, I think [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] S. Or [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_f]Kaylin[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] S. [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] may be an option as well. My mother in law has 4 other children who will probably have families in the near future so it’s not as pressing as including my mother’s name. So, maybe we will just go with [name_f]Kaylin[/name_f]. Decisions decisions. I don’t want the name to be too long. I actually like the name Natalyn (but I think it was voted down by my hubby because it is somewhat made-up, although I love the sound).
I think it would be a great idea to honor your mother or mother in law with the baby’s name! So I would defiantly steer away from [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] (even though I love the name)… I think [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is a little too much of a mouthful. I like [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u], but I REALLY love [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_f]Kaylin[/name_f]. Good luck!!
I think [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_f]Kaylin[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] sounds like a lovely choice. I don’t think it’s too long and it seems to tick all the boxes, honouring the important women in your life and incorporating the names you love. It’s a beautiful name
Ultimately, I think you should go with the name that you like.
Personally, I prefer [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u]/[name_f]Kaylin[/name_f] over [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u].
I know many women who have honored their mothers in the naming of their daughters–and never their in-laws. If you went with [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_f]Kaylin[/name_f], is your mother-in-law likely to be upset? It is for your mom without being her exact middle name.
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u]/[name_f]Kaylin[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] works though if you want to honor both of her grandmothers.
Thank you for the advice. I doubt my in law will get upset (and she has plenty of other younger children who will most likely have a baby in the next 5 years). My husband likes traditional names and does not like the idea of 2 middle names (so [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is out), so I think we are going to go with [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u]. The more I think about it, I want her name to mean something as opposed to mine (just a name my mom liked).
I think I was just so stuck on the idea of calling her natty lynn for short- but lily [name_u]Kay[/name_u] would work too! Who knows, I may just call her [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] lol
