Only a week to go! We think we’ve settled on [name]Isla[/name] (pronounced eye-la) for our baby:) But haven’t decided on a middle name. Some options…
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Madeline[/name] ([name]Madeline[/name] was my first choice for first name but DH said no!)
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Ashley[/name] ([name]Ashleigh[/name])
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Leigh[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Liya[/name] (my middle name is [name]Leah[/name])
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Belle[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
Any of these flow well/sound good? Any other suggestions? I like the idea of an A-name or L-name for the middle. Not into C or K middle names since our last name starts with K…
I really like [name]Isla[/name]. It’s quite a favourite where I live and big in [name]Scotland[/name].
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Madeline[/name]-- the flow is fine but I’m not crazy about these two together. [name]Madeline[/name] looks a bit brash next to the antique [name]Isla[/name].
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Ashley[/name] – Flow is abrupt. Too much ‘a’ sound.
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Leigh[/name] – Too much ‘L’ sound that the tongue trips up.
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Liya[/name] – Ditto
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Simone[/name] – Good flow.
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Belle[/name] – Very phrasey. Looks too much like the spanish word for ‘island’ in this context
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] – Flow is good.
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] – I like this best. The flow is good and the length of [name]Josephine[/name] balances [name]Isla[/name] nicely.
I think to use an L or an A middle name without the flow getting mangled you should use a longer name (at least 3 syllables) to lengthen out the syllables and stress-placement.
My favorite are [name]Isla[/name] [name]Simone[/name], [name]Isla[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Isla[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] (my friend is using this combination too and I love it!)
[name]Isla[/name] is beautiful - I absolutely love it! Great choice!
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Madeline[/name] - this is nice, and the contrast between the lengths of the two names is good.
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Ashley[/name] - the two ‘a’ sounds make the names run together, and I have to pause between them, so I would reject this on the grounds of bad flow.
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Leigh[/name] - this sounds as if it were all one, tongue-twister-like name, due to the ‘la’ in [name]Isla[/name] (Islalee).
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Liya[/name] - is this pronounced the same as [name]Leah[/name]? Regardless, with the ‘la’ sound in [name]Isla[/name], this makes the names too much when put together (i-la-le-a).
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Simone[/name] - this has a very nice flow.
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Belle[/name] - pretty, but perhaps too much like [name]Isabelle[/name] together (it sounds like it is all one name).
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] - flows quite nicely, but having both of the names end in ‘a’ sounds is perhaps too much; I think [name]Isla[/name] [name]Sophie[/name] is just as beautiful.
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] - the contrast in the lengths between these two is beautiful, they flow well, and are both very pretty names.
My favourites are, in order :
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Madeline[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Sophia[/name].
I would actually avoid A and L names as mn, for the reasons I gave above, if I were you …
I just went back and read some of [name]Elea[/name]'s suggestions - they’re beautiful, and I completely second what she said about A and L names. I think all of the names that she suggested work well, even the A and L names.
I can’t remember if it was mentioned, but [name]Isla[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] and [name]Isla[/name] [name]Guinevere[/name] also sound nice to me.
My favorites are [name]Isla[/name] [name]Simone[/name] and [name]Isla[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] (my overall favorite). I second the previous posters comments about the other combos, especially [name]Isla[/name] [name]Ashley[/name], [name]Isla[/name] [name]Leigh[/name], and [name]Isla[/name] [name]Liya[/name]. I’d personally avoid A names, L-heavy names, and trendier names with [name]Isla[/name].
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Simone[/name] is the most visually appealing to me but I like [name]Isla[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]'s flow. [name]Isla[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] was suggested and I think I like it better than [name]Isla[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] because of the use of double vowels. The flow sounds very similar.
I second just about everyone (and I [name]LOVE[/name], [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Isla[/name]!)
Of your choices, I like [name]Isla[/name] [name]Belle[/name]. My favorite [name]Isla[/name] combo is [name]Isla[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]. I’m in love
Here’s a few more ideas…
Thanks so much everyone!
And thanks for the compliments on [name]Isla[/name], I was starting to have second thoughts! Worried about mispronunciation mostly:) Our other choices were [name]Madeline[/name], [name]Finley[/name], and [name]Summer[/name], but I think [name]Isla[/name] is still in number one!
Thanks for your input…that makes sense about the A and L names…I’m thinking I like the middle names in this order:
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] or [name]Emmeline[/name] (both so beautiful!)
