We’ve decided on a first name if we have a girl, but we’re having trouble choosing a middle name. Her name would be [name]Mair[/name]”ad [name]Cully[/name], but again we’re looking for a good middle name.
Here are my rules:
Nothing common. I don’t want [name]Anne[/name] or [name]Marie[/name] or [name]Grace[/name] or [name]Rose[/name]. I’d like something a little more interesting.
It has to flow well, and with the double consonants of the end of the fn and beginning of the ln, probably a vowel name would work best.
It should be a Celtic/Irish/Scottish name or a Swedish name.
We know that pronunciation might be a problem with her name, but I had trouble with my name all my life, yet I love my name (mine’s [name]Brigid[/name]). So I hope she feels the same way about hers, because it really is beautiful! It is pronounced Ma-raid.
Of the lists, I like these names a lot:
[name]Mair[/name]”ad [name]Linnea[/name]- so cute! And since [name]Mair[/name]”ad means pearl, the whole thing means pearl flower. I think that’s very feminine and cute!
[name]Mair[/name]”ad [name]Isla[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name]!
[name]Mair[/name]”ad Elowen- very Welsh sounding. I like!
[name]Mair[/name]”ad [name]Aoife[/name]- this was a name we were thinking of using as the fn, but thought the pronunciation would be even harder! Great!
[name]Mair[/name]”ad [name]Bronwen[/name]- YES! Although I feel like it’s a tongue twister. [name]Mair[/name]”ad [name]Bronwen[/name] [name]Cully[/name].
[name]Mair[/name]”ad [name]Roisin[/name]- again, another fn turned mn.
[name]Mair[/name]”ad [name]Astrid[/name]- oh yes, so beautiful
[name]Mair[/name]”ad [name]Thora[/name]- DH likes this, but [name]Thora[/name] sounds like [name]Thor[/name], very masculine to me. But it’s still on the list, because I can deal with it for how much he likes it.
Here are some we’ve added personally to our list:
[name]Mair[/name]”ad [name]Imogen[/name]- fn of my favourite artist, [name]Imogen[/name] Heap, which is why I’m nervous. What if she comes out with a bad album?!?!?! [name]Will[/name] it ever have a bad association?!?!?!
[name]Mair[/name]”ad [name]Kathryn[/name]- for my mother
Also, I’m having some trouble finding a name to honour a family member. His grandmother’s name is [name]Edna[/name], but we both don’t like that name. Is there a name with the same meaning as [name]Edna[/name]?
[name]Edna[/name] means “pleasure, delight” and so does [name]Eden[/name] as it’s from the same Hebrew root. What do you think about [name]Mairead[/name] [name]Eden[/name] [name]Cully[/name] ? Using [name]Kathryn[/name] as a middle name would be a wonderful way to honour your mother.
