We have pretty much settled on [name]Baby[/name]'s name should he be a he. DH loves his Scottich heritage and I happen to love their names so that part was easy.
[name]Lachlan[/name] ________ C00k it is!
with [name]Tavish[/name] as a backup.
We also like [name]Jack[/name], but I think it is too popular. And too choppy with our last name.
The problem is with a middle name. DH would like it to be a family name, unfortuantely his family don’t have a great track record with names.
The choices:
[name]Bruce[/name]
[name]Francis[/name]
[name]Donald[/name]
[name]Frazier[/name]
[name]John[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Andrew[/name]
[name]Jeffrey[/name]
And from my family
[name]Peter[/name]
[name]Charles[/name]
[name]James[/name]
[name]John[/name]
Any thoughts on how to update some of these names? Variants that we haven’t been able to think of?
I’ve been lurking so long I nearly forgot I could post for help!
I love using family names in the middle, more and more now that I am a little older (I was 24 when I named my first child and so glad I kept with the tradition of using a family name in the middle for all of my kids). I like the following combos with [name]Lachlan[/name] (and btw, my last name is also C00k!).
We also plan to name our baby [name]Lachlan[/name] (1 more month!), and I really wanted [name]James[/name] for the middle name, so I would say - go with that! However, I really love [name]Arthur[/name] with it as well, and of course [name]Bruce[/name] would make the name that much more [name]Scot[/name]-feeling.
I like [name]Donnan[/name] quite a bit, as a variant on [name]Donald[/name]. I think pairing them with [name]Lachlan[/name] does a lot to update most of these names…they start seeming less corporate board meeting and more Knights of the Round Table.
[name]Lachlan[/name] [name]Andrew[/name] or [name]Lachlan[/name] [name]James[/name] are my favorites from your lists. [name]Both[/name] reflect Scottish history as well
My husband is also Scottish, and [name]Lachlan[/name] is one of our favorite names as well! I like [name]Lachlan[/name] [name]Andrew[/name] and [name]Lachlan[/name] [name]James[/name] (and as a pp mentioned, both have some Scottish history).
If you’re looking for a variation on the family names, you could try:
[name]Donal[/name]/[name]Donnell[/name] instead of [name]Donald[/name]
[name]Seumas[/name]/[name]Seamus[/name] (Scottish/Irish form of [name]James[/name])
[name]Iain[/name]/[name]Ian[/name] (Scottish form of [name]John[/name])
ETA: Also [name]Artair[/name], Scottish form of [name]Arthur[/name]!
Thanks ladies! [name]Andrew[/name] is probably my favorite from the list - unfortunately his cousin [name]Andrew[/name] is expecting a month before us so it will have to be a waiting game to see what they name theirs! And my family appears to have better taste with [name]Charles[/name] and [name]James[/name].
I appreciate the suggestions on variations - keep them coming! [name]Donall[/name] isn’t bad. And [name]Ian[/name] would be great - but its DH brothers name!
