My husband and I are expecting baby #3 later this year, and have pretty much decided on [name_f]Olive[/name_f] for a first name but are struggling with middles. I’d like to use something that honors my father, [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], but so far, my husband doesn’t love any of the obvious choices (e.g., [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_u]Andrea[/name_u], etc.). We had [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] on our short list for first names, and I like [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], but I wonder if [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] is too far of a stretch from [name_m]Charles[/name_m] to really be considered a name honoring him?? Any other suggestions are appreciated too. Thanks!
I love [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]! It’s so pretty. It may be kind of a stretch, but to you its close! Also have you considered just using the middle name [name_m]Charles[/name_m]? [name_f]Charlee[/name_f]/[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]/[name_u]Charley[/name_u] are all considered girls’ names now, my cousin named her daughter [name_f]Charlee[/name_f]!
Oooh I love [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]! [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]?
I love the sound of [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] ^^
I do agree that there are more obvious ways to honour a [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] though…
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Calandra[/name_f]? [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Calandra[/name_f] more obviously honours, [name_f]Calandra[/name_f] is Greek like [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] and means ‘lark’, a beautiful, underused gem
There’s also [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] for the [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] part and [name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f] for [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. And more obviously, there’s [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]! (Can’t believe I thought of [name_f]Calandra[/name_f] before [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] :P)
There’s also Caliadne and [name_f]Caledonia[/name_f] (and old name for [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]), and Callidora.
All your middle name options are far prettier than [name_f]Olive[/name_f].
The only other pairings that I can think of which include honoring [name_m]Charles[/name_m] as a whole are:
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Carlie[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_u]Carmen[/name_u]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_u]Carson[/name_u]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Chandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Charity[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Charlize[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f]
As for [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], what about:
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Angeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Annika[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Anya[/name_f]
You could always just honor him by using the meaning of [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] or [name_m]Charles[/name_m], which might be a subtle but thoughtful way of honoring him. For example, [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] means “strong”, so maybe you could use:
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Adira[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Briana[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Millicent[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps! Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] seems like a stretch for me; all it has in common with [name_m]Charles[/name_m] is the “C”. What about [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]? Short, sweet and directly linked to your father! Other suggestions:
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Charlene[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Chandra[/name_f] - “Ch-” of [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and “Andr-” of [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] - means ‘strong’ like [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] - means ‘free man’ like [name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Francine[/name_f] - same as above
Like any of these? Good luck
Olive is adorable! So retro and spunky! Great choice.
What about Olive Drew?
Or, since you don’t love any of the feminizations of Charles or Andrew, perhaps you could consider using your father’s birth month (if it would work as a name), or a reference to a favourite song or place? Or even asking him to help you choose?
Best of luck, and congratulations!
Thank you all for the ideas and suggestions!!! Taking the list back to hubby for further discussion. Funny, I feel like we named our first daughter in one evening, but this one is proving to be a bit more challenging!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] the name [name_f]Olive[/name_f]!
What about…
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Charlize[/name_f]
I love the sound of [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]!
Maybe names that mean ‘free’ as [name_m]Charles[/name_m] means ‘free people’
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]
[name_f]Malaya[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlize[/name_f]
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m] means ‘strong and manly’ so what about other names that mean ‘strong’?
[name_f]Alcina[/name_f]
[name_f]Briana[/name_f]
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f]
[name_f]Melisende[/name_f]
[name_f]Valencia[/name_f]
Your dad did not happen to go by [name_u]Cal[/name_u], did he? Not sure the connection to [name_m]Charles[/name_m], but I love [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]. Hmm
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] / [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Karolina[/name_f]? Slight variation but def changes it.
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] is quite pretty. I like [name_f]Olive[/name_f].
