Middle name help

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]. Sorry for posting again. I have real trouble in making decisions and sticking to them.

I would like some help in choosing either one or two middle names for myself. Can anyone give me any advice on how to choose a name or names I might be able to decide on and actually stick to them please?

I have thought about family names but no one in my family wants me to honour them. For that reason I am unsure whether to go ahead and use an honour name or names or not. Thoughts?

As a recap my first name is [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and my surname is [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]. I will be keeping my surname and I will be keeping [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] in my name some where. I can’t decide if maybe I should move it to the middle name spot and choose a new longer first name. What are your thoughts on that?

My lists are rather long. Sorry about that.

Names I am considering for new first name… [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].

Some honour names I like either using the name directly or indirectly… [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Karen[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]/[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f].

Some names I just like… [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Leora[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_u]Seren[/name_u], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Serena[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_f]Sarai[/name_f], [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Amy[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f].

If you have got this far thank you in reading the whole post.

Any opinions? Thoughts?

Thank you in advance.

Edit: I have decided that I m going to keep my first name Lucy. I might hyphenate Lucy with another name. If I do I am looking for one middle name and if not I am looking for two middle names.

Something that immediately jumped out was [name_f]Carina[/name_f] or [name_f]Karina[/name_f] as an honor for [name_f]Karen[/name_f].

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] Lucianne [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]

Thank you danakatherine and pamjsg99 for responding. I truly appreciate it.

I must admit I am leaning towards either keeping [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] as my first name or using [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] as the new first name. [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] is a close second to [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] I think is out of the running due to the fact it rhymes at the end with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. I would like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] to be the first middle name if I change my first name.

From the suggestions from both of you I like…
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]

I will keep thinking about combos. Thank you.

Any more help is appreciated.

First of all, congrats on this next big step! I haven’t seen your previous posts, but I know it isn’t easy choosing a new name for yourself, so props on going out there and doing it - and don’t apologize! It’s not simple, but you’ll get there.

On your question of whether keeping [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] as your first name or moving it down to the middle spot depends solely on one question - do you still want to be called [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]?

On honor names: do not honor those who do not wish to be honored by you.
If you feel a connection to one name and/or to one person whom you think their name would suit you well, then use that one.

Names that pop into mind:
1- [name_f]Erin[/name_f]
2- [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - as somewhat of a double barrell
3- [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] / [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Leora[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_f]Erin[/name_f] [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
(sorry ran out of juice here)

I also notice most of the names you like have very similar looks and sounds, and some close to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] as well. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Liz[/name_f]/[name_f]Lizzie[/name_f]’, [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f] ([name_u]Eloise[/name_u]?)… those would be good options too, if you’d like some familiarity in hand with something new. But if you’re keeping [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], you can scratch some of those.

Have you considered the meanings of the names too? This might also help you narrow down your options, be it either by not repeating meanings ([name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and [name_f]Leora[/name_f] both mean ‘light’), by finding a meaning that clicks with you and such. (well, by looking at these names, I’m thinking you’ve looked at that, since they’re all along the same lines? )

On making a name stick:
Pick one at a time and write it down. Write it as if you’re signing papers. Type it as in a conversation. Yell it out. [name_m]Say[/name_m] it over and over and over. Practice introducing yourself, full name and just first. Go to starbucks and give them the name you’re trying out. See how you like hearing it. Heck, even make a random account on a random social media and see how you like seeing that name.
Names in theory and on the computer are always perfect and gorgeous, but until you really hear it being used by others, you can’t know.

I’m going to second [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. It gives you the longer first you are considering, keeps [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], and incorporates an honor name. And if you do wish to keep [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] in the first name spit, [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] works just as well.

First of all thank you aren for taking the time to give me such a thoughtful response.

I have thought long and hard and I have decided I still want to be called [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. I love the name apart from the length of it. Maybe I am over thinking things?

For honour names the person I really want to honour in my name is my mother. However she is of the opinion she isn’t good enough of a person to be honoured in my name. At least I think this. It is unlikely I will ever have children so this is kinda my only chance of honouring her. My mothers name is [name_f]Karen[/name_f]. No middle name.

From your suggested combos I do really love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. While I like the name [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] it’s not usable for me as I know someone with this name. She is my neighbour. I like the name [name_f]Erin[/name_f] though. I will ponder [name_f]Erin[/name_f] for a little while.

I have looked meanings of some of the names listed. Maybe I should look more into it. It might help.

Thank you so much for your advice as well on making the name stick. I am going to try all the things you have suggested.

Thank you brittanyanitarose for taking the time to respond to my post.

Knowing you have seconded [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] makes me feel better about using it. I do love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] as well.

Does anyone think any of these combos work?
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Leora[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]

I will add more if I think if any.

I’m to be of even a little help

Top picks on meaning and flow:
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_m]Brooks[/name_m] - I love the soft, delicate feel and sound of [name_f]Elise[/name_f], along with a beautiful meaning.

[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Leora[/name_f] has a good flow, but both names have the exact same meaning. But perhaps one can never have too much light?

And on your mom / [name_f]Karen[/name_f], it seems like there’s a heart shaped place in your name waiting to honor her.
Throwing some ideas out there: [name_f]Kate[/name_f]/[name_f]Katie[/name_f], [name_u]Kay[/name_u], [name_f]Kara[/name_f] (unrelated, but ‘cara’ means dear/beloved in the Romance languages), [name_f]Reina[/name_f] (variation of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], where [name_f]Karen[/name_f] also comes from. Plus, again in Spanish + other languages, it means “to rule”), [name_u]Wren[/name_u] (just from the sound), [name_u]Ren[/name_u] (lotus > love in Japanese)

Best of luck on your journey
