Middle Name Help

We are going to use [name_f]Athena[/name_f] for the first name.

I always wanted the middle name to be [name_u]Patsy[/name_u]-[name_u]Shea[/name_u]. [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] for my grandma and [name_u]Shea[/name_u] is a family name. But my husband is already bending a little for me to have a first name I love. He likes it, just doesn’t love it the way I do.

His favorite name is Lyanna. [name_m]How[/name_m] would you order the middle names if we use all three.

Middle names to be used:
Lyanna
[name_u]Patsy[/name_u]
[name_u]Shea[/name_u]

I know it’s a lot of names but we don’t care. We are only having 1 child so its okay for us to use a lot of them.

We could also substitute [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] instead of [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] or [name_u]Shea[/name_u]. I would be okay with leaving [name_u]Shea[/name_u] out altogether and only having two middles if the combo flowed nicely.

I would do either [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] Lyanna or [name_f]Athena[/name_f] Lyanna [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. If you wanted (it would be a lot of name, but middles aren’t used regularly anyway) [name_f]Athena[/name_f] Lyanna [name_u]Patsy[/name_u]-[name_u]Shea[/name_u] does sound nice.

[name_f]Athena[/name_f] is so beautiful! I think three middle names would be a nuisance for your daughter in filling out registrations and forms so I would personally choose two. I like [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_u]Shae[/name_u] Lyanna best. It may be a bit of a stretch but would substituting [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] (li-NAY-ah) for Lyanna work for your husband as it could represent [name_u]Shea[/name_u] with the ea ending, so you could use [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] [name_f]Linnea[/name_f]?

I think you should totally go for [name_f]Athena[/name_f] Lyanna [name_u]Patsy[/name_u]-[name_u]Shea[/name_u]!

[name_m]Plenty[/name_m] of people and different cultures use three middle names all the time. Yeah, it might be a lot of name, but whatever! It’s jam packed full of meaning and everyone gets what they wanted; seems like a pretty special name for you.

[name_f]EDIT[/name_f]: After thinking about it for a bit, I actually think I prefer [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_u]Patsy[/name_u]-[name_u]Shea[/name_u] Lyanna

I agree with the people who said that three middle names is a bit much. I understand that you want to use as many beloved names as possible, but I personally would find having so many names a burden.
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] Lyanna [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] is great! I also love the suggestion of combining [name_u]Shea[/name_u] and Lyanna to make [name_f]Linnea[/name_f].

I’d probably do [name_f]Athena[/name_f] Pasty Lyanna or [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] Lyanna

I love the idea of [name_f]Athena[/name_f] Lyanna [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] or [name_f]Athena[/name_f] Lyanna [name_u]Shea[/name_u]. I don’t care for the name [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] because it means someone foolish who takes the fall for a crime someone else committed, and it doesn’t seem to fit stylistically with your other options.

I love both [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and Lyanna, as well as [name_u]Shae[/name_u]. I’d vote for [name_f]Athena[/name_f] Lyanna [name_u]Shae[/name_u] or [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_u]Shae[/name_u] Lyanna. (The flow also depends on the last name.) I know [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] is a family name for you but I just personally dislike the sound of it.

I love [name_f]Athena[/name_f] Lyanna [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] or [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] (from a previous suggestion)!

As stated above, we don’t care if it’s a lot of names and care even less if other people think it might be “a burden.”

Most government forms or any forms you fill out only ever ask for the first letter of your middle name anyhow. So I don’t see how it could possibly burden her.

It was my belated grandmother’s name and she was the most spiritually beautiful person I have ever meet. It makes me think of her and is thus the most beautiful name imaginable to me.

[name_f]Athena[/name_f] Lyanna [name_u]Shea[/name_u] would be my pick. Then [name_f]Athena[/name_f] Lyanna [name_u]Patsy[/name_u]. Honestly, like a pp said- [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] is a very different style. I would consider [name_u]Pat[/name_u], [name_f]Patricia[/name_f], [name_u]Patrice[/name_u], or some other way to honor your grandmother. If you really love [name_u]Patsy[/name_u]… you could consider removing [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and going with [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] Lyanna which looks very good together.

Personally, I would keep [name_f]Athena[/name_f] just because it is so pretty.

I mean, you were asking for opinions. You said you’d be okay with your daughter “only having two middles if the combo flowed nicely”, so naturally I expressed my opinion that that is a better idea. No one on this site is trying to make fun of you, we’re only trying to help you find the best possible name for your daughter.

I didn’t say I personally dislike so many middle names, I said that if I was your daughter and I had so many middle names I wouldn’t like it. [name_m]Just[/name_m] something to keep in mind. Good luck with naming your daughter.

I understand that the name has lots of personal meaning to you, and I obviously was not trying to criticize or mock your grandmother. I doubt she chose her own name. I was attempting to give honest feedback about the drawbacks of the “[name_u]Patsy[/name_u]” portion of the name, as [name_f]Athena[/name_f] Lyanna [name_u]Shea[/name_u] would still be honoring her but without the negative connotations associated with [name_u]Patsy[/name_u]. I mentioned my support for the [name_f]Athena[/name_f] Lyanna [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] option as well, because you had mentioned that you could use [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] instead of [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] or [name_u]Shea[/name_u]. Ultimately it is your child and your choice, and you’re not obligated to go along with the feedback you receive. Good luck with your decision.

I would use [name_f]Athena[/name_f] Lyanna [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] [name_u]Shea[/name_u] or [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] [name_u]Shea[/name_u] Lyanna. I like [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] next to [name_u]Shea[/name_u].

To me [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] is a nickname for [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]. Are you positive it says [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] on your grandmother’s birth certificate (or tombstone)? With ancestors, sometimes what we know them as… has nothing to do with their actual name. My Uncle [name_m]Pete[/name_m]'s real name was [name_m]Kenneth[/name_m]!! GO Figure! LOL
Anyway, I think [name_f]Athena[/name_f] Lyanna [name_u]Shea[/name_u] is beautiful and I especially like the [name_u]Shea[/name_u].
Is Lyanna pronounced Li-anna or [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-anna?

Yes, I’m extremely positive I know my grandmother’s full, complete, legal name. And deeply offended it was even asked.

I asked for people’s opinion on name order, not on the number of names. Being pregnant means I get unsolicited advice and “opinions” I didn’t ask for on a daily basis. At some point you just have to stick up for yourself and make it clear what you will and will not allow people to make you feel.
