Middle name issues

So I posted yesterday about [name]Alyse[/name] and most people indicated that the pronunciation would be [name]Al[/name]-liss. Not exactly what I was looking for :frowning: I like how it looks but really wanted [name]Ah[/name]-lease.

My fiancé is 1) annoyed with my baby name obsession since we are not even close to having a baby (the whole wedding thing is more important to him at the moment LOL) and 2) really likes [name]Annalise[/name] ([name]Annaliese[/name] ? he doesn’t care), but it’s starting to look like analyze to me and I can’t get it out of my head.

My question is: Should I drop [name]Alyse[/name] and find something else? (It has to start with A— long story and cannot end in A as it clashes with the last name) OR go back to [name]Annalise[/name] / [name]Annaliese[/name] which we both like and get over the analyze thing?

What about [name]Alise[/name]. I would pronounce it uh-lease. Proununciation of names these days makes naming hard. I am a big fan of annalise-spelled this way. Annalies leads me to say anna lies and that’s a turn off for me.

I think if you can get over the analyze thing [name]Annalise[/name]/[name]Annaliese[/name] would be perfect for you. You’d have a name you both like and the ah-lease sound is still included. [name]Alise[/name] could make for a great nn.

I’ve just replied to your other thread, saying [name]Alise[/name] might be a better spelling for you. I really like [name]Annalise[/name] too, but if you’re not certain, what about:

[name]Adelice[/name]
[name]Anais[/name] (ah-nah-EES, like [name]Annalise[/name] without the L)
[name]Amaryllis[/name]

They may be way too out there for you and non of them really have an easy spelling/pronunciation so that solves nothing. But they’re a similar sound to [name]Alyce[/name]/[name]Annalise[/name] and I thought some of them might appeal to you.

[name]Edit[/name]: Sorry, didn’t exactly answer your question, but I prefer [name]Annalise[/name]/Annalies to [name]Alise[/name]/[name]Alyce[/name] and I would probably use that in your position since both you and your partner like it a lot, but it really depends on whether or not you can look past the ‘Analyse’ thing.

I like [name]Anais[/name], even had it on the list for a while, but he knows an [name]Anais[/name] and doesn’t like her much, so that one is definitely out.
I like [name]Alise[/name] — I think I could live with that. I’m trying to get over the analyze thing… sigh especially because in Spanish [name]Alise[/name] sounds unfinished… (like it should be [name]Alisa[/name], but again, can’t use anything that ends in a), but the extra syllable in [name]Annalise[/name] helps it sound more “finished”. I don’t know if that makes sense. Am I overthinking the analyze thing? I really do like the name and the meaning.

Seeing now that it’s for the middle I say do what you like. [name]Alyse[/name] prn’d like [name]Elise[/name] is not the weirdest thing and middle names are not used that much. [name]Alyse[/name] prn’d [name]Elise[/name] in the first spot would be obnoxious because people would regularly prn it [name]Alice[/name] I think, but in the middle that’s not a concern as much. [name]Annelise[/name] is nice too, I don’t think it looks like analyze. I think though that with 3 syllable [name]Noemi[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name] : D) in the first position, 2 syllable [name]Alyse[/name]/[name]Alise[/name]/[name]Elise[/name] etc is better rhythm. But [name]Noemi[/name] [name]Annelise[/name] is still very nice!

Good luck!

I would just go with [name]Elise[/name] TBH.

But like I said in your other thread, I know a girl [name]Ah[/name]-lease spelled [name]Alyse[/name]. But to be fair, I wouldn’t know how to say it if I saw it.

If you can get over analyze then I would go with [name]Annaliese[/name] because your Fiance seems to tend toward [name]Annaliese[/name] and you liked it once too. If not I would go with something different because [name]Alyse[/name] looks like [name]Alice[/name] to me. I tend to go with this rule, ‘If one must change the spelling of a name from a traditional spelling then change one letter only. Any more and it seems to take on new sounds or become unrecognizable.’

Good [name]Luck[/name]!

I honestly wouldn’t be too concerned about having to decide on a name until you are close to trying. I would definitely keep it on the list though. I discuss names with my husband because it’s fun and gives us something to talk about, plus I have such a small list of names I’m hoping he will contribute something I actually like, lol, but probably won’t until we actually have a child. Men are like that, they don’t worry about it until they have to.

So I’d work on getting over the analyze thing and maybe keep looking for another name to love. Also what about [name]Elise[/name]? It’s pretty close to what you want. I agree with others that [name]Alise[/name] might work for you.

If you think ‘annaliese’ looks too much like analyse then what about the traditional spelling [name]Anneliese[/name]? I also think [name]Elise[/name] would be good too.

I like [name]Alyse[/name]. And I would prn in the way that you do. Stick with what you love!
