Middle name May. Is month an issue?

We would like to use the middle name [name]May[/name] for our second daughter. It would be an honour name after my husbands grandmother. We honoured my grandmother with our first daughters middle name. The only issue is that this baby is due in [name]May[/name]! Is that awkward or cheesy? Also, we are considering the spelling [name]Mae[/name] instead of [name]May[/name]. My husbands grandmother spelled it [name]May[/name]. Is that inappropriate when it is an honour name? Thanks for any advice.

I don’t think it’s cheesy. I guess firstly it was given to girls born in [name]May[/name]. [name]Mae[/name] spelling may be great alternative if month association bothers you.

I’m born early may and my first name’s [name]Maya[/name]!! It really doesn’t matter especially in the middle.

I have a friend with the middle name [name]May[/name] and she was born in [name]May[/name] as well, I don’t think it’s cheesy at all. I think in her case it’s possibly a family name too as she has a niece with the same middle name, and who wasn’t born in [name]May[/name]. It’s such a popular name it’s acceptable regardless of when the baby was born.

Also, I prefer [name]May[/name] to [name]Mae[/name], I find [name]Mae[/name] just looks trendy, but if you want to avoid the month assoication it might be your better option.

Yes, it’s cheesy, but does that make it a bad thing? I don’t think so, but it’s your opinion that matters.

[name]May[/name] is perfectly fine as a middle name. I’m sure people will assume she was born in [name]May[/name] and that’s why she has that as her name, but is that a bad thing? My cousin, [name]Summer[/name], is often assumed to be born in summer, when she was actually born in the fall. To me it’s more accurate when you name a kid a season for it to be in the season, same with months, otherwise they get tons of jokes like “you should have been named [name]Autumn[/name]”

I think it’s fine, I would rather use a name that honors family then to worry about when the baby is born and [name]May[/name] is a great middle name regardless!

I prefer [name]May[/name] over [name]Mae[/name]. And no, I don’t think it would be a big deal to give a [name]May[/name] baby that middle name.

Thanks for the help! Now, any great first names to go with [name]May[/name]? Still stuck…and it’s almost [name]MAY[/name]!!! Lol

Would you consider double barreling it? [name]May[/name] / [name]Mae[/name] is great for that… Choose a two syllable name you love, and ask us what we think!

[name]May[/name] or [name]Mae[/name] is a popular choice to use, especially if you want to do a double name.
Options to think about include: [name]Sadie[/name] [name]May[/name], [name]Jana[/name] [name]May[/name], Marimae, etc. Also, could use it with another name all together, like Maeryn or [name]Maegan[/name].

I love [name]Mae[/name]! I wouldn’t worry about the month especially since you are choosing it as a middle name.

I’d spell it [name]May[/name] and I wouldn’t worry about the month thing because it’s a mn.
I think the connection to your husbands grandmother is much more important and such a beautiful reason for choosing the spelling that everything else pales in comparison to me. But, [name]Mae[/name] is beautiful too.

I would keep the original spelling of [name]May[/name]. It’s not cheesy to me; [name]May[/name] is too well established as a given name.

First names we are considering:
[name]Adelyn[/name]
[name]Adele[/name]
[name]Adeline[/name]
[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] (too popular)
I like [name]Esme[/name] but hubby doesn’t. Doesn’t work with [name]May[/name] anyways.
[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Haven[/name]
[name]Elowen[/name]
[name]Amaya[/name]

My oldest daughter’s middle name is [name]June[/name], she was named after my Grandma who was born in [name]June[/name], and my daughter was also born in [name]June[/name]. It’s only awkward when I mention her birthday, because she goes by her first and middle name together, so saying for example [name]Jillian[/name] [name]May[/name]'s birthday is [name]May[/name] 3rd, does feel a little bit silly and obvious, but it’s not something that would have swayed me from using a family name.

I think [name]Isla[/name] [name]May[/name] is my favorite from your list. I also like [name]Ella[/name] [name]May[/name], [name]Elise[/name] [name]May[/name], and you could use [name]Esme[/name] instead of [name]May[/name] since it has the same sound.

I wouldn’t go foor [name]Amaya[/name] because [name]Amaya[/name] [name]May[/name] looks a bit odd. I also really like [name]Adelyn[/name]

Actually, I like it. I had a friend whose fn is a variation of [name]June[/name] and she was born in [name]June[/name]. Nothing wrong with it. The month connection is not a big deal. (Maybe) it’s even better than correcting people for the situation like: “Your name is [name]May[/name]? Your birthday is in [name]May[/name], isn’t it?” and have to answer “No, I was born in [name]October[/name]” for your whole life.

Use it! If you think it’s weird, just use the spelling [name]Mae[/name]. It still honors her. But I think [name]May[/name] is totally fine. I love it! And when people ask her, her middle name, they aren’t gonna follow up with, “when’s your birthday?” If that makes sense. Lol!

Not having read other comments, here are my thoughts - [name]May[/name] is also a diminuitive for [name]Mary[/name], so I don’t mind the name being used outside of the month of [name]May[/name]. It is irritating to me when [name]April[/name]'s and [name]June[/name]'s are born in different months, petty but my true feeling. Also using seasonal names outside of the season, an [name]Autumn[/name] born in [name]April[/name], or a [name]Summer[/name] born in [name]March[/name], urrrgh!
