[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone! We’re TTC at the moment and, as expected, my OH isn’t really interested in having baby name conversations until we’ve conceived and there’s a baby to name! However, the subject of family names came up the other day when we were with friends and I mentioned that I really love his grandfather’s middle name - [name_u]Kingsley[/name_u]. He NEVER likes any of the names that I like, but he said it was a cool name and that his grandfather (who he’s very fond of) would be chuffed if we named a son after him.
In the past couple of years I’ve been on Nameberry, I’ve never really found another boys name I loved, so I think I’d like to push for [name_u]Kingsley[/name_u] if we have a boy. I love that it’s a family name, and all the literary and creative connections (author [name_u]Kingsley[/name_u] [name_m]Amis[/name_m], actor [name_m]Ben[/name_m] [name_u]Kingsley[/name_u], character [name_u]Kingsley[/name_u] Shacklebolt). I know that titular and braggadocio boys names ([name_u]Reign[/name_u], [name_m]Saint[/name_m], [name_u]Royal[/name_u], [name_m]Titan[/name_m]) could be considered “trendy” right now, but it does have history as a name so it doesn’t feel as trendy on a boy as it would on a girl, for example. I do like the fact that his name would at least feel at ‘home’ generationally rather than something outdated or out of place for the times.
Also, my grandmother’s maiden names were [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] and [name_u]Regan[/name_u] which both mean “king” so it’s not only an honour name for his grandfather, but also a subtle nod to my grandmothers. In fact, one of my grandmother’s was [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] too. [name_u]Kingsley[/name_u] and [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] both share the meaning “meadow” as well.
What do you think of the name [name_u]Kingsley[/name_u] for a boy (when it’s a family name, of course)?
