Middle Name Obsessions

I am as obsessed with middle names as any good nameberry.

But sometimes I wonder why when I think how little a role my middle name plays in my life. [name_f]My[/name_f] parents were never the type to say out my full name if I did something they didn’t like. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband knows my middle as do my early childhood girlfriends, but I doubt my newer friends do.

I seldom sign my middle name or even initial.

I guess I think about this dichotomy most when I read posts about parents changing their first name choices because they don’t go with the middles they like and it does make me laugh.

Of course I’m a big nicknamer and would probably nickname my child from all his or her three names so maybe the obsession is valid. Any thoughts?

Honestly, I think this exactly why I think middle names are so much fun! Since they’re not likely to be used every day, I am much more daring for middle names than I am for first. I almost see a middle name/combo to me more for the parents than anyone else, which makes it very special. I love middle names!

A middle name provides additonal clarification between people.

There may be more than one [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_f]Doe[/name_f] in the world, but there will be less [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] Does or [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] “JJ” Does, etc. etc.
