Hello!
[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering what some thoughts were about spelling middle names differently to honour family members… I am not a fan of unique or creative spellings regularly, but, for example, I would consider using Evalen (like [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]) to honour [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Helen[/name_f]-- and only in the middle spot…
Does this make sense or is it just silly?
Well, I prefer [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], but isn’t terrible as a middle.
I think this is ok in the middle spot… Could you do two middles?
----- [name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
----- [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f]
Or could you use a variation of [name_f]Helen[/name_f] in the first spot?
[name_f]Ellen[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Leanora[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Nell[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
Or a variation of [name_f]Eve[/name_f] in the first spot?
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Evelia[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_u]Everly[/name_u] [name_f]Helen[/name_f]
I think [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Nelly[/name_f] or [name_u]Everly[/name_u] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] are my favourites!
I personally feel [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] (spelled this way) could honor a [name_f]Helen[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f]. There are times that I feel a change in spelling works and other times it just looks misspelled or like a typo. I would not pronounce [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and Evalen the same. That is also an issue of changing spellings.

While I’m pretty against changing spellings just to kyoot or uneek, I think that there is a lot more leeway when it comes to middle names and when it comes to honoring family members. So if it was a first name, I’d probably discourage it, but as a middle I think it’s nice. Like another previous poster said, if I saw this name on paper, I would probably pronounce it a little differently than [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] (maybe Ee-vuh-len, which is also a pretty pronunciation) but middle names are seen so rarely and said based on sight even more rarely so I feel like that’s a little bit of a nonissue. I like it!
