[name]EDIT[/name]: I was just thinking about you, [name]Tara[/name], and I wondered if you had considered [name]Idina[/name] (as in [name]Idina[/name] Menzel of Broadway fame) for your daughter? I’m aware this doesn’t give you as clear a short to the [name]Indie[/name] nickname, but, if you feel like you can’t commit to a place name like [name]India[/name], maybe [name]Idina[/name] could work for you guys! I think it is absolutely beautiful and carries an exotic feminine feel well-matched to [name]Juliette[/name], [name]Bella[/name], and [name]Mia[/name]…
I’ve never thought of that name before. I just looked it up on Nameberry and it says “from Edinburgh [name]Scotland[/name]”.
SO WEIRD! That’s where my Great Grandmother was from.
Is it pronouned “Eye-die-na” or “ee-die-na” or some other way?
You can hear the pronunciation of [name]Idina[/name] (uh-dee-nah) on this random YouTube video - - YouTube - if you want to!
I love that [name]Idina[/name] has a family connection to your great-grandmother, being that she was from Edinburgh. [name]How[/name] cool! Are [name]Juliette[/name], [name]Bella[/name], [name]Mia[/name], and [name]Leo[/name] family names, too, or just ones you liked? [name]Just[/name] curious! Anyway, I think [name]Idina[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] would be perfect, as [name]Idina[/name] has a similar semi-exotic feel to your other names, whereas [name]Quinn[/name] is another Irish surname name, like [name]Sloane[/name] and [name]Ryan[/name]. I think it is a really cool, unexpected, feminine choice, personally!
[name]EDIT[/name]: Sorry! Missed the part about your husband nixing it! Too bad - I really thought it was ideal and I loved the family connection to your great-grandmother’s heritage! Anyway, on a side note, I think it would be best to choose a less feminine middle name so her name blends with [name]Maura[/name], [name]Ryan[/name], and [name]Sloane[/name] (and [name]Magnus[/name]!)…
I love [name]India[/name] [name]Jane[/name] the most! I think that since [name]India[/name] is a place name, it’s fine to put a feminine name in the middle name spot.
[name]India[/name] is very pretty, and something a little different. I hate to be a nay-sayer, but I remember your last name from your other posts, and I’m wondering if you’ve considered the way the two names sound together. I don’t think it’s necessarily a deal breaker, but definitely something to think about since it starts to feel a bit like a “thing” instead of just a name. If you do go with it, I think you should definitely keep this in mind when selecting a middle name - names like [name]Sage[/name], [name]Willow[/name], [name]Poppy[/name], or [name]Pearl[/name], for example, only exaggerate this (though, I think with any last name, it’s probably best to avoid a word name following a place name so as to avoid the name sounding as if it is, for example, a pearl from [name]India[/name]).
I do love the [name]Idina[/name] suggestion, and I think that sounds fabulous with your last name!
[name]Even[/name] though [name]India[/name] is a place and your last name is a word, I think they are both ‘namey’ enough that I don’t really think of the word meanings when I hear the name. I think [name]India[/name] W@0d sounds gorgeous.
Having said that, I agree with jlm that you should probably steer clear of word names in the middle. I think an interesting, non-frilly middle would go well with your other girls’ mns. I love:
[name]India[/name] [name]Carys[/name]
[name]India[/name] [name]Tamsin[/name]
[name]India[/name] [name]Seren[/name]
[name]India[/name] [name]Marin[/name] (though this may be too similar to [name]Juliette[/name]'s mn [name]Maura[/name])
On the other hand, since [name]India[/name] may not be quite as girly as your other girls’ names, maybe a more feminine middle would be the best fit? Others have made great suggestions; I really like [name]India[/name] [name]Jane[/name]!
I have considered that [name]India[/name] [name]Wood[/name] might sound kind of weird.
But, maybe b/c I’m blinded by my love of the name, it doesn’t really bother me.
I will give it more thought and ask the hubs what he thinks. My older kids are not on board with this name at all (yet). So we may just stick with [name]Norah[/name], which I do like very much, but it’s lost a bit of luster for me.
[name]India[/name] is such a pretty name. I’ve only seen [name]African[/name] American people with that name, so it would be cool for an Irish/white person to give it a try…very unique! Have you ever heard of the singer [name]India[/name] [name]Arie[/name]? She is amazing![/quote]
I have heard [name]India[/name] [name]Arie[/name] and I think she’s great! It’s funny b/c she’s the only [name]African[/name]-American person I’ve ever heard with that name the rest have been white English girls/women.
