Middle name used as a first name

DH’s family has an insanely long standing tradition of naming first born sons [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]. I want our little boy to go by his middle name like my husband does, but can’t find anything I love. While I do like the increasingly popular names like [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_m]Liam[/name_m], I want something NOT in the top 50.

Currently heading my list are names like [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]Nash[/name_m], and [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], but The list is too long and I feel like I’ve also overlooked some classics that might be acceptable like [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. Help?

Personally [name_m]Simon[/name_m] or [name_m]Nash[/name_m] are not my style, and [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] just feels so trendy and the double F doesn’t thrill me.

Is there a name on your side of the family you want to honor or do you want something more modern to suit the very traditional [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]?

I like unusual often with a vintage feel. [name_m]Holden[/name_m], [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]Malcom[/name_m], [name_u]Owen[/name_u], emmet, [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], [name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_m]Teague[/name_m], basil. DH says [name_m]Simon[/name_m] is growing on him. It may be a good substitute for [name_m]Milo[/name_m] or [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] which have already been thrown out.

I like [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u]. I would call him [name_m]Frederick[/name_m].

[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] stands out from the names you’ve mentioned. Underused classic with great nickname possibilities ([name_m]Mac[/name_m]). [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] works even if it is a [name_m]German[/name_m]/Scottish blend.

[name_m]Malcom[/name_m] had been a favorite of mine for a while too. I need to see how DH feels about it.

I actually don’t hate [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], but his grandpa and great grandfather both go by [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] and I’m not a fan of sharing names.
