Middle Names for Charles

I posted in the general forum but am re-posting here because we found out that baby #8 is a boy!

First name is [name_u]Charles[/name_u], nn [name_u]Charlie[/name_u].
We want two middle names. I’m set on [name_u]Joseph[/name_u].
We were thinking [name_m]Peter[/name_m] & [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] but now my husband is thinking [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] instead.

[name_u]Charles[/name_u] [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] [name_m]Stephen[/name_m]

Is this too much “ph” in the middle names even if [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] is pronounced with the “v” sound?

The ph repetition wouldn’t bother me too much, as you say the pronunciation is different — though I’d probably lean towards using the spelling of [name_m]Steven[/name_m] instead.

[name_u]Charles[/name_u] [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] work well - they don’t sound too similar for me

[name_u]Charles[/name_u] [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] is PH heavy, yes. I’d swap it around and go with [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] [name_u]Charles[/name_u] [name_u]Joseph[/name_u]

Congrats!

[name_u]Charles[/name_u] is a great name.

The combo [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] does seem a trifle awkward to me, with the double “ph”. Maybe switch to [name_m]Steven[/name_m]? [name_u]Or[/name_u] alternatively, [name_u]Charles[/name_u] [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] flows a bit better, to my ear.

I like that. Thanks!

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband suggested that too and I wondered if the z sound ending of [name_u]Charles[/name_u] and S beginning of [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] would be too similar.

Yes, I also pondered that, regarding the ending -s + beginning S-. Somehow it still seems to flow fine, though… maybe because it’s a z-sound beside an s-sound, so they’re slightly different?

I think you’re right. I’ve been saying it over and over. I do like the flow of it & hubby likes that best so I guess it wins
