[name_m]Hi[/name_m] guys, would love your help picking the perfect middle name for [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] (prn yoon-ah). My husband has always wanted a daughter and has had this name picked for years, so now I have the fun task of finding a middle name (or two) to fit it perfectly.
I love names that are uncommon, but not necessarily unusual, and I don’t want a name anyone else she meets is going to have. I had decided on [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u], but recently I’ve noticed the name [name_u]Winter[/name_u] becoming popular, and I don’t want to end up with something trendy and dated. I had also played around with more traditional names like [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] [name_f]Margot[/name_f], ([name_u]Jean[/name_u] is a family name) but I’m not sure they flow well :-?
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]!! I don’t think season names will ever go out of style. But you could always do [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f]!
whiteteaandginger - thank you! my worry with [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is that it sounds very close to [name_m]Eugene[/name_m]! and [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is a very common middle name, so I’d be tempted to add another more unusual middle to keep it fresh
bassilly - thanks for your suggestions! [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] is gorgeous, really reminds me of space, but unfortunately, [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] sounds really unfortunate with our last name haha.
Wow, love the name [name_f]Yuna[/name_f]! I prefer [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is cute but not sure it will age well. I’m not convinced that [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] flows well though. I think [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] sounds better if you want to use those names.

I could only think of names starting with N haha, but I think they work really well with [name_f]Yuna[/name_f].
[name_f]Yuna[/name_f] always reminds of the summoner character in Final [name_f]Fantasy[/name_f] X, so it feels very powerful and cool to me. Great choice!
And I love all of your middle name options too! They all flow nicely and I don’t think [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is getting too popular to use (especially when combined with [name_f]Yuna[/name_f], the name is certainly not going to feel stale!) You’re probably overthinking this, I say go with your gut!
seanachaidh - that is exactly where the name comes from! he’s a big Final [name_f]Fantasy[/name_f] fan. at first I wasn’t sure about the name, (similar to [name_f]Una[/name_f] which I’ve never been particularly fond of, and also naming your kid after a video game??) but then I watched him play the game and it grew on me a lot, and now I love it and can’t imagine using another name
I definitely am overthinking it! We’ve been decided on the name since [name_u]March[/name_u], but since then other people have had girls and used the name [name_u]Winter[/name_u] (or rather [name_u]Wynter[/name_u]) and so I’m just panicking that it’s going to sound “stale” by the time we use it. but as long as [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] doesn’t suddenly rise in popularity, I guess you’re right, and it might not hurt having a more common middle name to balance it out.
I don’t like [name_f]Una[/name_f] much either, so I’m with you there. In general, both U and Y names seem to be my least favorites, so I’m sure it took me some time to love [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] too when I first heard it. And I see nothing wrong with naming kids after video game characters! Maybe I’m a little biased since I play video games, but I really don’t think it’s any different than naming them after characters in books, movies, or TV shows. (Plus, I doubt most kids her age will recognize where the name comes from; FFX is 15 years old!)
Definitely stick with [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]. [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is hardly a common name on its own, but the fact that it is more common than [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] isn’t really a bad thing. Like you said, it’s balanced! [name_m]Even[/name_m] with more classic options like [name_u]Jean[/name_u] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f], you’ll have that balance, and [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] is bound to age well with any of them. If [name_u]Winter[/name_u] surprises us both and rises to the top 100 somehow, then maybe it’s too trendy for you after all, and you’ll have something else to fall back on. But otherwise, I think [name_f]Yuna[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is your clear winner!
