I think we’re getting closer to choosing a name for this baby, if it’s a girl.
At this point (though I don’t trust my ever changing mind), we’re down to [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] or [name_u]Marian[/name_u].
If we choose [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], it would be [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].
However, I’m not sure what to pair with [name_u]Marian[/name_u].
Here’s what I have so far…
[name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is a very special, significant name for us, plus my middle name is [name_f]Elise[/name_f], and my mum’s name is [name_f]Elaine[/name_f], so it sort of makes a bit of a pattern.
[name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] - [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is my all-time favourite name, and we love its connections to nature, space, and literature.
[name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] - I wonder if this is too many syllables? Anyway, I love the [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables connection with this name, and there’s a song called [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] that my husband really likes.
[name_u]Marian[/name_u] _________ - something else? I’m still open to suggestions. I love names that have nature-inspired meanings.
So, which do you like best? Or, do you have another idea for us?
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is great! As an alternative I really like [name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], especially since you love [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] so much
first I want to say congrats! and I totally understand the hardship of trying to find the right name!
[name_u]Marian[/name_u] is a very pretty name and if you aren’t sure about the middle names maybe see how they sound as firsts and have [name_u]Marian[/name_u] as the middle?
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_u]Marian[/name_u], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_u]Marian[/name_u], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_u]Marian[/name_u] - those are pretty as well but if you’re set on having [name_u]Marian[/name_u] as a first name I have a couple of suggestions which I hope help.
But I also feel that if a name has really significant meaning then go with that one because it makes it even more special when baby is born, [name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is a very pretty name and it’s strong sounding as well.
Or if you love both [name_u]Marian[/name_u], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] & [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], there is nothing stopping you from using all three.
That combination is a powerhouse of a name! it’s sweet, pretty, feminine but also strong, it’s the type of name you hear and think damn, a strong, independant woman right there! but that of course is my opinion. I hope this helps!
[name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Elyse[/name_f], and [name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] are my favorites from your list. [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is really cool.
Congrats! [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_u]Marian[/name_u] are both such beautiful names. From your list, my favorite is [name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. I don’t think the name has too many syllables at all, and I find it flowy and balanced. I also love the literature connection, and if the song “[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]” your husband is talking about is by The Tragically Hip, then please tell him he has impeccable taste! Other ideas…
Thanks for the replies! To be clear, I’m not looking for any new first names, just thoughts on the middles I’ve paired with [name_u]Marian[/name_u], and any new middle name suggestions you may have.
@danakatherine - your comments are always marvelously insightful. Thank you. I especially love [name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]. And yes! The Tragically Hip’s [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] was was I was referring to.
[name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is my favourite but all 3 combos are really good, so I see your dilemma. While it would also be great to repeat the [name_f]El[/name_f] sound in your daughter’s name, I’m really persuaded by the fact that [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is your all time favourite name and it just sounds so brilliant next to [name_u]Marian[/name_u].
I’m curious why [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] isn’t a first name option if she’s your absolute favorite name? Of the current contenders, I think my favorite is [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], but [name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is also compelling.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I’m no closer to making a decision, but it’s nice to know that unbiased people such as yourselves deem my combinations acceptable.
To those who were curious, we won’t be using [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] as a first name because the baby’s last name will begin with a P, and we aren’t fans of the initials P.P.
I have a [name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]! So of course I love the name [name_u]Marian[/name_u] I also like [name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Joelle[/name_f], or the shorter version [name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_u]Jo[/name_u]. I think any middle with [name_u]Marian[/name_u] will be lovely!
I think [name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is a quite a lovely name. The first name that came to my mind for a middle was [name_f]Violet[/name_f].
