Middles: FUN vs. FAMILY

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] again! Thanks to those of you who responded to my last post.

I am playing with middle names for my daughter-to-be, possibly to be named [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] (my husband’s favorite).

I am torn between giving her a family middle name or simply a middle name that sounds cute.

My family names to choose from come from my mom and my grandma:
grandma’s name: [name_u]Joyce[/name_u] [name_f]Irene[/name_f]
mom’s name: Taryl [name_f]Lynne[/name_f] (called [name_u]Tari[/name_u])

Family middle options:
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_u]Tari[/name_u]

Which do you like or what other options do you see?

Fun middles (just sound cute):
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]

Which do you like or what other options do you see?
THANKS!

[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]

Out of those, my favorites are [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u], [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_u]Tari[/name_u] ([name_u]Tari[/name_u] is such a cool name!), [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f], and [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u].

If it’s an option, you can always use two middles, a fun one and a family one. Also some fun names can be used as indirect family names if you like- for example [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] sound similar so you can use [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a honor for [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] - just a suggestion

My cultural heritage tells me to honor a relative without using the name outright. One way to do that would to use the same first letter:

[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Irie[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Lia[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_u]Lou[/name_u]

If that doesn’t seem like enough to you, and you still want something more creative, what about a middle that has the same meaning?

[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Aliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Eir[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Frida[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_u]Lake[/name_u]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Meara[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_u]Ren[/name_u]

I don’t know if this appeals to you, but I thought it might help.

I like [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].

All your options are great! My favourites would be [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u], [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u] and [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f].

Some other ideas…

[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] Linley ([name_u]Lynn[/name_u] + [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. I know a Linley and she’s lovely. :))
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Star[/name_f] (cute and fun, plus it honours [name_u]Tari[/name_u])
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Aer[/name_f]/[name_f]Eira[/name_f]/[name_u]Ren[/name_u]/[name_u]Rain[/name_u] (cute ways to honour [name_f]Irene[/name_f])
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_u]Ari[/name_u] (Sounds very similar to both [name_f]Irene[/name_f] and [name_u]Tari[/name_u])

Well if you use 2 middles you get both!

I love [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f]
Or [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]

Of all the names [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f] is my favorite.

I love jasmine.lees and other pp suggestions of what I call “stretch” honor names. For example using [name_f]Lily[/name_f] to honor a grandma sue
Or daisy in place or aunt [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. You seem to love nature names, [name_f]Iris[/name_f]-meaning rainbow would be a fun middle name that could also be a nod to [name_f]Irene[/name_f].

[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] would be beautiful!

I am a fan of mixing names to honor, that’s how I got my daughter’s mns. I would go with [name_u]Joyce[/name_u] Irelynn.

You all are so creative! [name_u]Love[/name_u] many of these options…now to run them by the daddy-to-be

Family vs fun…such a hard question.

I liked the suggestion of two middles!

I will admit my favorites on the list were both from the fun side:

[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u]

I lean towards family names. [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] is my favorite!

[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] is my favorite, followed by [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. Personally, I’d use the one with the family connection.
