I posted a thread earlier looking for names for my friends baby girl, but, sadly, none of the names stood out enough to them. After searching through hundreds of names on this website, one name stood out to [name]Sara[/name], and surprisingly [name]Jude[/name] as well. They’re looking for uncommon names, but are worried that it might be too out there. What do you think of the name [name]Mignonette[/name] [name]Elena[/name]? I believe the pronunciation is like [name]Min[/name]-yon-ette, but please correct me if I’m wrong. [name]Elena[/name] is going to be pronounced ee-lay-nuh. Older brothers are [name]Dashiell[/name] [name]Pierce[/name] and Thackery [name]Flynn[/name]. Thanks you!!
I really really really want to like [name]Mignonette[/name], but I just can’t. It sounds too much like a combination of the words ‘minion’ and ‘marionette’ which both have negative connotations in my mind for a name.
I love the sound of it, but unfortunately I just can’t help thinking of filet mignon.
Im sorry but [name]Mignonette[/name] is not technically a name and means too many other things so i cant bring myself to like it. It is used as a nn that’s essentially calling a lover cutie, darling, etc but it’s also a plant, type of pepper and a bunch of culinary things like sauces, a cut of lamb, etc… [name]Mignonette[/name] is also a miniature bottle and type of lace.
It’s late and I’m typing on my phone so please excuse any errors or mistakes.
Sorry its just too much name…part steak part puppet…not my style at all…
[name]Mignonette[/name] seems overly cutesy and doesn’t have a good sound or associations. Would your friends consider something similar like…
[name]Manette[/name]
[name]Nanette[/name]/[name]Ninette[/name]
[name]Villette[/name]
[name]Minette[/name]
Miette
[name]Antoinette[/name]
[name]Georgette[/name]
[name]Claudette[/name]
[name]Arlette[/name]
[name]Babette[/name]
[name]Fleurette[/name]
[name]Bernadette[/name]
[name]Odette[/name]
[name]Paulette[/name]
[name]Juliette[/name]
[name]Cosette[/name]
[name]Josette[/name]
[name]Colette[/name]
[name]Yvette[/name]
[name]Lucette[/name]
[name]Suzette[/name]
[name]Violette[/name]
[name]Viviette[/name]
[name]Jeanette[/name]
I could understand the cuteness factor of it, but I find it extremely difficult to say without stumbling over the last two syllables. I agree with pp’s that it reminds me of filet mignon.
It means, literally, “little cutie.” it’s a term of endearment. Given that their boys are named [name]Dashiell[/name] and Thackery (not [name]Thackeray[/name]?) I imagine they think [name]Mignonette[/name] sounds elegant and exotic, but in reality it sounds faintly ridiculous to anyone who speaks French.
If she wants unusual -ette names:
Audette
[name]Antonetta[/name]
Corette
Elinette
Evolet
[name]Fiammetta[/name] (little flame)
Gianette
[name]Josette[/name]
Ketevan
[name]Lucette[/name]
Marretje
Merete
Ombretta (little shadow)
[name]Reinette[/name] (little queen)
[name]Viviette[/name]
[name]Zsanett[/name]
I also think it’s a bit too cutesy, since “mignon” means “cute” in french and the “ette” just makes it more so. I also agree that it is a bit hard to pronounce and will probably end up being “minion-ette”.
It makes me think of the little yellow guys in Despicable Me. Not my favorite.
I love love love [name]Elena[/name] though. Go with that instead.
I also thought of the little yellow minions in Despicable Me and filet mignon so I am not a fan of [name]Mignonette[/name].
What about…?
[name]Marguerite[/name]
[name]Josette[/name]
[name]Cosette[/name]
[name]Colette[/name]
[name]Minnette[/name]
[name]Nicholette[/name]
[name]Aurielle[/name]
I believe [name]Mignonette[/name] is the kind of sauce served with oysters
I like the older brothers’ names, but unfortunately [name]Mignonette[/name] seems a bit silly and as if it wouldn’t be easy to wear to me. Perhaps your friend might like [name]Manon[/name] [name]Elena[/name] or [name]Mazarine[/name] [name]Elena[/name]?
[name]Mignon[/name] is a lovely nickname, but [name]Mignonette[/name] is just too much to me.
[name]Antoinette[/name] is the most beautiful -ette name in my opinion and I think [name]Antoinette[/name] [name]Elena[/name] could work.
Sorry I have to jump in here and say that while I like a lot of these names, especially [name]Josette[/name], [name]Minette[/name] or [name]Minette[/name] is not a proper name and is used in slang that has sexual connotations since it means pussy cat if you catch my drift.
It’s a bit too much name.
I agree - way too cutesy. [name]Josette[/name] is a nice suggestion. [name]How[/name] about [name]Marietta[/name] or [name]Mariette[/name]?
I just think chicken mignon (delicious btw).
I do like [name]Elena[/name] though.
What about [name]Marisol[/name]?
I like…
[name]Bernadette[/name]
[name]Antoinette[/name]
[name]Marielle[/name]
[name]Manon[/name]
[name]Colette[/name]
[name]Mireille[/name]
