Mila or Lola for a baby girl

Hi all, Struggling between Mila or Lola for a baby girl. I love both but I’d love your honest opinions. My concerns for Mila is that it is becoming quite popular. My concerns for Lola (as discussed on older forums) is that people will think of the songs in which it is used (The Kinks, Barry Manilow) but then I also feel these songs are older now and so don’t come to mind as quickly. Older forums also say that Lola might not suit an adult and is more a nickname but I think shorter ‘nickname like’ names are becoming more socially acceptable. I also love that Lola can be shortened to “Lo” for a nickname. Thanks so much in advance!

I love [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and think it’s more versatile. Both are nice though

All of your concerns are totally valid. With [name_f]Mila[/name_f] I always question is it’s me-lah or my-lah. So you might have to correct some pronunciation with that one. I definitely think of the song [name_f]Lola[/name_f] when I hear the name [name_f]Lola[/name_f]. I also agree it feels kind of nickname like and for a child. Is there a name you like that could use [name_f]Lola[/name_f] and [name_f]Lo[/name_f] as a nickname still if you’re worried about that?

Out of the two I like [name_f]Mila[/name_f] the best! I don’t think it’s super popular currently and it’s a pretty name!

Congratulations on your daughter! You have two lovely options here, you can’t really go wrong.

I personally slightly prefer [name_f]Lola[/name_f]. It’s a little funkier and feistier to me, and that’s the vibe I tend to lean towards in a name. [name_f]Lo[/name_f] is a sweet nickname!

[name_f]Mila[/name_f] is very sweet, stylish and sophisticated and also a great choice. There could be pronunciation issues with this one though (MEE-la or MY-la?) plus it is a little more popular.

I also love the fact that [name_f]Lola[/name_f] gives the nickname [name_f]Lo[/name_f] though I don’t actually like that name. How about [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] as a full first name that gives the nickname [name_f]Lo[/name_f]? It could also bestow the nickname [name_f]Polly[/name_f] if your little girl decides [name_f]Lo[/name_f] is too short for her taste. [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] is a strong yet feminine name I would say and isn’t too routinely heard and it appears that you do want to avoid names that are gaining a big attraction right now.

[name_f]Mila[/name_f] sounds better to me than [name_f]Lola[/name_f] does but again, yes it is indeed becoming a more and more popular choice, thanks [name_f]Mila[/name_f] Kunis lol.

I would suggest considering [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] though, I myself have considered it as a way to reach [name_f]Lo[/name_f].

I love both ,but I definitely prefer Mila,I think [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is good for a girl and a woman, while I think that [name_f]Lola[/name_f] is not so good for a grown woman ,but very cute for a girl,I would use it as a nickname for [name_f]Viola[/name_f] or [name_f]Paloma[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Lola[/name_f]! There’s a cute kids show called [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Lola[/name_f] about a brother and sister and she’s so cheeky and cute! As someone who wishes they had a ‘cuter’ name I think it would suit a grown up just fine
I like [name_f]Mila[/name_f] too and [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] or [name_f]Mim[/name_f] could be a cute nickname, not that it needs one being so short already. Overall I like [name_f]Lola[/name_f] the most. Good luck :relaxed:

I adore [name_f]Lola[/name_f]! It’s been a favorite of mine for a very long time. It’s soft & sweet, stylish, and I can very much see it aging well. And “Lo” is lovely!
For [name_f]Mila[/name_f], I have to think about how to pronounce it every time I see it or say it aloud, even though I hear it on young girls VERY often. I would say that it is one of the names I hear most often when I take my daughters to the playground. Along with all of the Mias, Mayas, + [name_m]Milas[/name_m], all three of these names have lost the spark for me.

I like [name_f]Lola[/name_f]! It feels more spunky and fun than [name_f]Mila[/name_f] imo. Other mids these days have nickname-y names so when they’re adults [name_f]Lola[/name_f] stand out. I don’t know those songs :flushed:

Another vote for Lola! Plenty of nickname names are trendy already, I agree with that, and Lola is a spunky and lively choice! I can definitely see it on a sophisticated & grown woman just as much as Mila.

For most, Mila would be Mee-La as in the actress and Myla would be My-La. But it also might depend on where you live.

Best of luck!

[name_f]Lola[/name_f]! It’s so underused, yet so sharp and funky sounding! [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is nice but I’ve met so many now that I’m a bit tired of it

Congrats! [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is on my list too! I also love [name_f]Lola[/name_f]. I’m not familiar with either of the songs you associate it with so it sounds like a very fresh and playful name to me. I think it will age well too!
