Milla/Camilla/Amelie/Emmeline

My favourites are [name_f]Milla[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f].
I don’t think another child will feel left out for not using a ‘c’ name though, especially if you plan on using [name_f]Millie[/name_f] most of the time.

[name_f]Milla[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] are my favourites

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]
If your last name is what I think it is, then I would rule out [name_f]Milla[/name_f] (despite the fact that I love it!). The 2-2 syllable combination isn’t great. However, all 4 names work and are lovely, so you can’t go wrong, I’m just being nit picky here.

I like [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] the most. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is just NMS. [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] to [name_f]Millie[/name_f] doesn’t feel like that much of a stretch, and if she mainly goes by [name_f]Millie[/name_f], I wouldn’t worry about [name_u]Cam[/name_u]/[name_f]Cammy[/name_f]. However, when she’s older, she might want to be called that, so there is nothing you can do about that. Also, if you husband likes [name_f]Cammy[/name_f], it might go that way.
Like your husband, I love [name_f]Emily[/name_f] but I understand your complaints about her being too common. I feel in love with this name after being [name_f]Emily[/name_f] in the play “Our Town” by [name_m]Thornton[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. Great play, it seems so normal, but is so so so touching. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] feels the most like [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] does seem like a nice halfway between his two faves. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], however [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] does feel different - more french and unique. But it’s lovely and incorporates your choice too! This way he gets his beloved [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and you get your [name_f]Millie[/name_f].

I think if popularity isn’t too big a deal, [name_f]Emily[/name_f] might be worth considering. It’s a timeless name, and if she goes by [name_f]Millie[/name_f] while she’s young (or as long as she likes), she won’t have to be (for example) [name_f]Emily[/name_f] S. in school because she will be [name_f]Millie[/name_f].

So I guess my 1st choice for you would be [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. It’s super sweet and [name_f]Millie[/name_f] (although it’s a slightly different sound), feels very natural.

I vote [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] as it is my favorite from those you have listed.
Though personally, I prefer [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].

Oh my! [name_f]Love[/name_f] your taste in names I basically asked this same question yesterday! Desired nickname [name_f]Mila[/name_f]…thinking of [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] & [name_f]Camille[/name_f]. Someone suggested [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], I like it but have a niece who is [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. From your list [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is jumping out at me and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] would be my suggestion ”

Any other ideas, thoughts or suggestions?

I like them in this order:

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]: It’s just so unexpected and lithe and sleek and [name_m]French[/name_m]/[name_m]German[/name_m]! I adore her. She’s been one of my favorites for the past five or so years, and I still adore her. I prefer the nn [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] (or even [name_f]Emma[/name_f]), but it’s definitely my favorite of your options to get to [name_f]Millie[/name_f].

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]: I am quite torn as far as [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] goes most times, because my best friend (who was [name_m]French[/name_m]) was [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], and 95% of the way English speakers say it drives me bonkers. (In [name_m]French[/name_m], it’s generally a mix between ah-MEE-lee and uh-[name_f]Millie[/name_f]. Amélie pronunciation: How to pronounce Amélie in French, Dutch, Luxembourgish) I used to not be terribly crazy about it, but she was my best friend, and she’s gone. I’ve grown to love it because I loved her so much. It’s sleek and elfish and classy and unexpected. She went by [name_f]Millie[/name_f], too, so I think the nn is pretty seamless. If [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] wasn’t on this list, [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] would easily get my vote.

[name_f]Camilla[/name_f]: I’ve really liked [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] for a really long time. LOVED it, at spots, too. And I think [name_f]Millie[/name_f]'s great for it. I’d just be hesitant to use it if you HATE [name_f]Cammy[/name_f] and your husband likes it. I know a lot of Camilles who go by [name_u]Cam[/name_u]/[name_f]Cammy[/name_f].

[name_f]Milla[/name_f]: I’m with your husband here, sorry! It’s no longer than [name_f]Millie[/name_f] (shorter, too, when you spell it out!), and it’s just as much of a nn as [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is. I don’t really get the whole use a nn as a given name only to nickname it even further. Why not just go straight to [name_f]Millie[/name_f] if you’re going to use a nn? I’m the same way about [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Tess[/name_f]. I don’t “get” [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tess[/name_f].

So [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] for me, but I also like [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] a lot. I also love [name_f]Camilla[/name_f], but if you’re worried about [name_f]Cammy[/name_f], I would drop it like a hot potato.

I love [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f], although, [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is currently on the US top 1000, and I know of adults in the UK with it as a stand alone, proper name. I prefer [name_f]Millie[/name_f] as a standalone choice myself, and [name_f]Millie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] would be gorgeous.

I think, although I love [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], my vote goes to [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].

This is hard! [name_u]Lucky[/name_u] we still have 12ish weeks to go!

ha! [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t feel bad. Everyone else says it just as badly, haha. I must admit I find AM - illy really adorable, too, but more in a GPish sort of way. I’m sure people would easily adapt to that prn., and it still makes sense for the nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. And I have to admit, transitioning from the [name_m]French[/name_m] accent to the American/English one, OM-illy sounds closer to the original [name_m]French[/name_m] (at least, to my ear) than AM-illy does. There are a million and one pronunciations, anyway–I feel like every time I hear someone say it they say it differently. It’s a pretty name regardless. So I wouldn’t feel too bad about saying it “wrong”.

I’m glad you’re loving [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]! It was my favorite girls’ name about 5 years ago, and I still stinkin’ adore it. It’s so perfect! I don’t understand why it’s not more popular, especially since it sounds so similar to the popular [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] (I love the name [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and its namesake film). It’s sounds like the perfect compromise, and it lends its self well to the nick name [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. I also think you are spot on about saying that it’s a great alternative to [name_f]Emily[/name_f].
