With baby [name]Tess[/name] having just turned 9 months, husband and I are starting to think about TTC our fouth (and probably last) baby. Of course, I’m already starting to think of names. My top 5 right now are [name]Eva[/name], [name]Leah[/name], [name]Sophie[/name], [name]Maggie[/name], and [name]Millie[/name].
I really love [name]Millie[/name], but I feel like I’d need to give her a “formal name” and then call her [name]Millie[/name]. My oldest is [name]Ellie[/name] and I sometimes regret not giving her a formal name ([name]Elisabeth[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Elise[/name]…) because when I tell people her name is [name]Ellie[/name] they say …“What’s her real name? Or is it just [name]Ellie[/name]?”
Anyway, the question is, what are some good “formal names” for the nickname [name]Millie[/name]?
(These are of course only my girls names…we already have a name picked out if it’s a boy!)
I love [name]Millie[/name]! It’s an adorable nickname, but I agree, it needs something longer to fall back on. There are a few options, some more appealing than other:
[name]Millicent[/name] - this one is vintage and cute, but some find it still a bit too old fashioned.
[name]Mildred[/name] - this one is definitely in the “way to old” category for me.
[name]Amelia[/name]/[name]Emilia[/name] - spelling it [name]Emilia[/name] makes the nickname more intuitive but the more common spelling works as well. It’s the most currently fashionable way to get the nickname.
[name]Camilla[/name] - probably my favorite option. I know a [name]Camilla[/name] nn [name]Milla[/name]/[name]Millie[/name] and it’s very sweet on her. [name]Camilla[/name]'s not too common but it’s not too unusual either. [name]Camille[/name] works as well.
[name]Romilly[/name] - this name is basically unheard of in the US but it’s a favorite of mine. [name]Romy[/name] and [name]Millie[/name] are both great nicknames.
Other options:
[name]Emily[/name]
[name]Milan[/name]
Milania
[name]Jamila[/name]
[name]Romilda[/name]
I love the name [name]Millie[/name]! It’s very cute.
Without copying Freckles’ suggestions, I’ll give my personal favorite: [name]Milena[/name].
I think [name]Milena[/name] is absolutely gorgeous (pr. muh-lay-nuh), and it gives you the nickname [name]Millie[/name]. I feel like [name]Milena[/name] is classic and modern sounding, which is a good balance.
More unusual:
[name]Camellia[/name]
[name]Jamila[/name]
[name]Ludmila[/name]
[name]Maelle[/name]
[name]Maelys[/name]
[name]Mathilde[/name]
[name]Melania[/name]
[name]Melantha[/name]
[name]Melisande[/name]
[name]Mildred[/name] - though I’m not quite sure if this one is ready for a comeback…

Thanks for the suggestions! [name]Cecily[/name], my other children are [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Clare[/name], and [name]Tess[/name]. I know [name]Ellie[/name] and [name]Millie[/name] are kind of close, but I still love it
I really like the suggestions of [name]Amelia[/name]/[name]Emilia[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name]! I don’t love [name]Camilla[/name] (I really don’t like [name]Camille[/name], so that could be why?) But those other two are great. I also agree that [name]Mildred[/name] is [name]WAY[/name] too “old” for my taste. And [name]Millicent[/name] reminds me of that witch on Sleeping Beauty…(Does anyone know what I’m talking about? Can you tell I have three young daughters? haha)
